Pump

We installed our 250 gallon tank yesterday but the pump i have is LOUD. It's an Iwaki (USA). My local store which will be maintaining my tank recommends i get a Ecotech Vectra L2 but they are pricey. I am being told i need one that pumps out 3000 gph.

What other brands / model would you all recommend. Thank you in advance.

Much depends on where the pump will be. Under the stand, in the basement, head pressure .

Pan World is almost a direct replacement for the Iwaki & should be quieter & save a little on power.
However it will not be silent as they have a fan to keep the motor cool.

With that being said, Ecotech Vectra L2 will save a lot more in power and be the quietest ?

I would go for a Jebao DCP 15000

I like the price of the Jebao DCP 15000 much more. Is it capable for a 250 gallon tank. I read it does 3900 gph but how accurate is that.

DC pumps that size are quiet. Most AC pumps that size are loud enough you are going to hear them. Some like the Iwaki are very loud in a house environment.

Not sure on your set up/overflows but it pumps almost 4,000 gph. You can also get the DCP 18000 or 20000 if you need more flow.

Every pump is rated with no head, so that is 3900gph pumping straight out of the outlet, if your pumping water 2 meters you won't get 3900 gph at that height but that is the same for every pump. If you want a DC pump and go for the Jebao get the next one up.

DC pumps like that you can reduce flow with the push of a button so go bigger and just decrease the flow to what you need it to be.

Thank you. Seems like you guys like the Jebao DCP 15000, 18000, 20000 for what they are worth and price but i m hearing from others they are not safe.

I use an AC return pump for reliability because I don't want to pay for a high quality DC pump with the same reliability.

As stupid as this sounds, i'm going to see if putting a towel on top of the pump leaving the fan side open to breath reduces the noise and remove towel when i leave the house.

No idea on your particular pump, but there are things you can do to make it less noisy.
Probly the biggest is to soft plumb it... meaning have the output go through a length of reinforced tubing before joining to any hard plumbing. That will reduce the vibration. Also, you can put it on some sort of a reef-safe cushion. Better yet, you can tinker with the plumbing and, essentially, get it to hang a 1/2 inch off the bottom of the sump.
