Purple monster

I used to have a colony.
It's a super slow growing coral, once happy it will grow a bit faster on you.
Sold it off this summer and promised the new owner to keep her name excluded.

I tried and it was the first to go when I started to get Dino. In fact I believe it was the only coral to completely die off during that outbreak.

Correct, the PM is super sensitive if it comes down to off balance reef keeping.

The Moster is though to find these day even though it's an old standby. Probably because it is so fickle as Diesel stated. Occasionally you will see a frag pop up for sale.

FYI, it was the first acro kept alive in a glass box.
After that it was child's play for most of the acro's that followed.

Mine grew well back when I had my 265g. Got frags from Robbie (RC TOTM Oct 2003) and Copps (RC TOTM sept 2004 and jan 2011)

I will definitely be adding this to the new set up when ready.

Colony used only for fragging

Yes it is.
Many try to grow it but were unsuccessful.
If you lucky you can find 1/2 inch for just $100.
Hi Diesel,
Have you seen the PM that UC is selling? Jake Adams collected it from the Solomon Islands. Is it the real deal?

Is it similar to the original PM?

If you compare it to this I can say it looks similar, yet it ain't the Tyree PM

The JA PM is getting close but doesn't have the so special to the original PM green base.

The history behind the real deal PM,

Unique also has the OG Purple Monster which has the slight green base

Yes I posted that link as well and that would come close to the original PM from Tyree.
Considered the price tag of $168 for a 3/4" nub.
I sold the PM 1"+ for $120 last year, and they were flying of the shelf, I had 4 frags available and I donated two of the for a pack in the 2015 R2R toy drive and a auction to save Todd's house last year January.
The other two I sold locally.

Here is my colony after several yrs growth from a 1/2" frag:
