This will depend on lighting. Mine is truly Purple but has blue appearance under certain light phases throughout the day

It’s the same blue as the blue on my Majestic. No one says a Majestic angel has purple.

If you take away all the small black dots, you then see purple. It’s an optical illusion & not the bright purple that the purple tilefish has.

I’ve never looked into this in the 16 years of keeping fish. I’ve never owned a purple tang either. But could the following be the reason ?

when I see them in LFS, my mind never tells me it’s blue. Lol
