Purple tangs are not purple.

Looks like your run heavy blue lighting, which I avoid like the plague.
Nope. Blue. Like mine..

It’s the same blue as the blue on my Majestic. No one says a Majestic angel has purple.

If you look at it under blue light it's going to reflect the color blue. I keep Purple Tangs in my outdoor frag tanks and in the direct sunlight they are deep purple with black body stripes.

Everything. The sailfin its housed with is a ultimate pig. Total glandular problem.

Depends on the time of the day, midday in my tank is white light and I like blues in the morning/evening. My iPhone always makes a picture look more blue though.

Purple tangs are blue when you rock is blue. Under any form of white, they are purple.

Shot with a flash. Have to agree, more blue than purple. Saw several last week around the BVI islands. Looked more blue than purple.

Unless I misinterpreted the acronym, the BVI are in the Carribean and purples aren’t native to the Carribean?

That said, I see the argument for blue however that looks more purple to me still.

Yes, British Virgin Islands. Purple tangs have been documented there since 2018. When we snorkeled Salt Island we saw a lot of them. Much darker blue than Atlantic Blue Tangs, but I would say more dark navy blue looking than purple. Having said that, if you had a bunch of bright blue fish that were all light to sky blue and there was a purple tang among them, it would definitely be darker and look purple compared to the others. As others have said, it all depends on the lighting.
