So I'm looking to get 6 Anthias (Lyretail, Females, Small) and on my first round of QT, I added the fish to 1.0ppm copper treated water out of the gate. Fish have done fine. My question is around wanting to get my anthias fish eating first before I add copper. If i get them eating first, how do I ramp up the Copper? Enough to get them to 1.0 initially then get the the 1.5/2.0 over 48 hour intervals? That is how I read some of the stickies but I wanted to make sure.

I have the QT running with a seeded sponge and biomedia......6 small anthias in a 20L - hope this works out.

I'd get the anthias eating first since they can sometimes be difficult to acclimate to foods... and copper can suppress hunger.

Once they are eating, slowly raise the levels of copper to 2ppm (if chelated copper) over several days watching them closely for stress.

If you notice any skinny bellies or white poo, then attempt medicating their food... which can also be done while in copper treatment.

Thanks. I guess my question is around this - if we drop new fish into a pre-dosed 1.0 copper tank and move them up to 2.0 over 4 days, it implies that they can take a 0-1.0 hit "immediately".....then get ramped to 2.0.

So if the above is "true", then if i get my fish eating first in QT, should i be able to take them from 0 to 1.0 in one dose and then move them to 2.0 slowly?

Just wanted to bump this up. If I start off with no copper, what’s the best way to ramp to 2.0? Jump to 1.0 in one dose then take 48 hours to 1.5, another to 2.0?

I always go at least 4 days to get to 2.0ppm copper, after they have been eating aggressively for at least 2 days.

I usually acclimate to temp then drop the fish into matching sg and 1.0ppm Cu. After 24 hours I dose to bring to 2.0ppm. Never had problems, just did this with three lyretails and they ate mysis shrimp fine the entire time.

I am currently QT a convict tang. I dropped in right into 2.0ppm Cu and after 24 hrs dosed prazi pro because he was flashing bad. Hes eating, but very little and skinny. Im going to keep holding at 2.0ppm for now.

Its probably a good idea to get them eating before dosing copper but I dont do that.

I personally dont understand the slow ramp. If the fish stops eating then whats your next option? Try another med for ich? I do copper and thats it, if I encountered a fish that refused to eat in copper he wouldnt eat.

Thanks All. Just trying to reverse engineer the logic in some of the stickies.

Seems like dropping fish into a pre dosed 1.0 copper solution is what they recommend followed by an increase to 1.4 over 48 hours then another 48 hours to get them to 2.0.

With the above stated, it implies that fish can go from 0 to 1.0 "immediately".

I'll see what the little guys look like when they get here "by end of day"......hate that large of a window!

Right out of the shipping bag?
What's the hurry?

So there is no hurry and i know that there are no strict rules around these things, I was just working off of some of the suggested things from the stickies on how to QT. I plan to get my anthias eating first.......assuming there is no need for immediate treatments. My big question is what does/should the path to 2.0 copper look like when starting from 0.0?

Like I mentioned, I always go at least 4 days to get to 2.0ppm copper ( especially for sensitive fish), after they have been eating aggressively for at least 2 days. This is for fish I buy online. It's a 3 hour round trip to the closest fish store I trust. I want to give those fish the best possible chance.
For fish that I know have been at a store for a few days and are already eating, I can see starting them off right away with copper.
One store I know already runs a low level copper, so I would probably have my qt setup with it at that level already.

I put fish in 1ppm copper power, raise to 2ppm over 4 days. Like Mfinn said.

You are using chelated copper right and not ionic ie cupramine?

Pseudoanthias aren’t particularly susceptible to ich/velvet so I’d not frankly bother with copper prophylactically. They are susceptible to uronema though, which requires chloroquine phosphate. Either way, get them eating first.

So the fish are in and they look great. I don’t have chloroquine phosphate as I was planning to do CP with metro and general cure but if that’s not a good treatment schedule I’m open to changes.

They look good! I’m just not a big fan of blasting fish with cocktails of meds, so my view probably diverges from some in the ‘right’ approach. I’ve had dozens of anthias and never had ich or velvet. Plenty of uronema and bacterial problems though.

This article says not to use it with anthias.

Any other way to treat Uronema other than CP? Seems like it can be tough to get

Not that I’m aware of. Tough right now because some think it treats COVID-19 .... Not inevitable that they’ll get U so fingers crossed. I only use CP if I see telltale body ulcerations.
