Is this a sump, or a quarantine tank? For a quarantine tank, I'm not sure what the return pump and pvc pipe would be for.
Don't think I would want to use a heater in a plastic box. If it comes in contact with the side or bottom, no telling what's going to happen.

You are going to need a biological filter

PVC pipe sections for hiding spots I assume?

what kind of biological filter is needed?

If you've already got an air stone, You have everything needed to run a sponge filter, other than sponge filter which can be had for under 10 bucks. Unless you are planning on doing a total water changes every day, You are going to need biological filtration.

would this work?

Looks like a air powered sponge filter ( needs a air pump) , very similar to what I use for my quarantine tank.
I seed mine in the sump of my display tank for 4-5 weeks.
But as was suggested that and bacteria product.

I would get the quarantine tank up and running before adding fish. That includes getting the sponge filter seeded.

Sponge filters will work, but they will not be very effective until they are covered with nitrifying bacteria. Hence, you will be subject to ammonia problems. If you don't need to QT any fish immediately, put the sponge filter into the display tank or sump for a month or more and it should be able to process ammonia from the fish in QT. Biospira or some of the other bacteria in a bottle products may speed the cycling of the sponge filter.
Keep a close eye on the ammonia levels to insure it doesn't reach critical levels.

i need to do it immediatlely.. so need to work with bacteria I guess..

Yes, be sure to test for ammonia daily. Sometimes, the Bacteria in a Bottle takes several days to become effective. If ammonia gets too high, you will need to do water changes until the bio-filtration is functional.

Well, I started the QT tank yesterday and added bacteria. I used 2 different bottle bacteria and also added the sponge filter.
I will have to add my fish in tuesday as they arrive then. I might test for ammonia then but hope the bacteria settles until then.

Usually you need to add a source of food for the bacteria to grow and populate the surfaces of the filter.
That's why products like Dr. Tim's One and Only recommend adding ( their own) ammonia.
So people say you only need to add fish and the bacteria product. Fish waste turns into ammonia giving the bacteria a food source. Others say this exposes the fish to short term ammonia exposure. Which can be harmful.

well, I did add some bacteria and some bacteria food. Bio Digest if you guys know that in the US (Prodibio) and also Microbe Lift Special Blend.
