I know Bayer is used primarily for SPS , but I was curious if you have used Bayer on LPS and Softies when dipping. If you have, what has been the outcome. When you're dipping corals for a couple of hours at a time like I have to on days we receive an order, have you noticed any issues with using it over an extended period of time for multiple pieces.

Last one....What is your mix ratio of bayer to tank water?

I dip everything in Bayer. If it is super effective and gentle on Acros, then obviously its going to be an excellent dip for LPS and zoas etc.

If you are doing massive dips like that, you are going to want to set up 2 different rinse buckets. The dip is HIGHLY toxic to inverts and fish-- copepods included. And being that this much time it involves you will want to keep a thermometer in them to make sure you arent shocking them with different temps/ph.

I use 6ml per cup of saltwater. I would dip them for no more than 10 minutes and then move them to the first rinse bucket, let them sit for 5 minutes and then move them to the second rinse for 5 minutes.

i've used it on LPS/Zoas never tried softies.... my mix is 5ml per cup of saltwater for 10mins.. then soak/rinse in clean saltwater before adding to the display..

not sure of the effectiveness over 30mins-1hr

That's our current process right now. Just to ensure nothing is left on the piece.

What do you guys think a good mix is for 5g. In actuality it's probably 4-4.5g. Which would be approximately 64 cups. My concern is the toxicity of the Bayer in that amount.

I use it and love it. I have noticed that smooth skin deep water wild colonies are not so forgiving with it.. Also I agree with dowtish about using 2 rinse dips. I have had an issue in the past where I had a large order come in and I dipped 50colonies with rock basses And I wound up loosing all of them in QT. For 2 reasons I believe, 1. I only rinsed once and the Bayer was still in the porus rock and caused stn on all corals starting the next day. The other was the amount of coral I dipped at one time and them went into QT together. I believe it caused contamination of the water. And since it is something you can't measure you need to take extra care. I have done it since and not had problems. 4-6ml per 8oz water is a good mixture. And I have done 2,rinse dips with an extra big water change the following day in my coral system. If its just for frags 2 dips is plenty.

I use it and I am really pleased. I use 5ml per cup of water. Any new frags I get I will dip in it, sps, lps, zoas, and have seen no ill effects. It is the only thing that I have used that will kill those little white LPS bugs. I also use Revive and have noticed that LPS fully retract and stay retracted for a while after use, but when dipping the lps in bayer instead most of the time they stay inflated inside the dip and then within minutes of returning to the tank they are inflated again.

Has anyone used it on zoas? I haven't yet. Only coral Rx and the h2o2, if I see a bacterial issue.

Toxic I can tell.you longer is not better. I left one in to see what would happen. 15-20,min it bleached and died a day or 2 later. So I would assume an hour would be devastating. Also like I mentioned in an earlier post I believe the reason I lost a batch of coral was BC of it leaching out into the system and over a few days killed the coral. Now it was 50 colonies in a prop tank. Not frags. So its different. But you get what I'm saying.

I did use it on two colonies of zoas and within 2 days they opened more than they have ever been open before. That being said, I still feel my zoas are not opening as much as they should. Yes all parameters of the tank have been tested and I have no known parasites. I did see a few tiny snails in the rinse water that were killed. I did use a turkey baster to blast rinse them very well after they were dipped.

I've used a mixture of h2o2 on zoas that don't open or look like they have a fungus or bacterial growth on them.

I used it on a purple goniopora recently. Made it mad to no end. But it killed what it needed. I used a small dosage and dipped it for about 5 minutes. Rinsed it off twice. So far no negative effects have been noticed.

As long as the dilution is the same as 5-6mls per cup, it doesnt matter how much you mix up even if it were in a 100 gallons.

I use 10 ml per 8 ozs tank water gallon for 15 minutes. Haven't lost a single coral that wasn't bleached/shipping stressed already. Home depot has a semi transparent 2 gallon bucket that has ozs, liters, gallons, and cups printed on it and smaller 64 oz cup with 1 oz and ml increments.

you guys dip alot stronger than I do. most ive done is 4ML per 8 oz. I did everything. Id dip my fish in it if I could.
