Two questions about it that I need help with.

Question #1) would the XF130 be all I need for a 40b?

Question #2) After reading the reviews for the XF130, I have see that people say the blades break really easily and that when snails get in the cage it wrecks the blades pretty well. In the experience of those who use it, how much truth is there to this? Thanks!

Just take some wired mesh and wrap it around the cage, that should keep those pesky snails out.

I have a 150 in my 180 at 50% and I have not had any problems with it and it's been in my tank for 5 months

I have a 150 in my 150 running at 100% and I like it. I have only had it about a week so my review is limited to little experience. No issues yet though.

I think the 130 will be more than enough for the 40B and you will probably have it turned down quite a bit. As for snails, yes, I have yet to see a blade win the battle against a snail. Having said that, I have not had an issue with mine 150 since the pump came out.

A 130 should be more than enough for a 40 breeder.

I have a 130 in a Nuvo24. Haven't had any issues with dwarf ceriths getting in and messing it up.

I have the 130 in my 75 gal and believe me there is more than enough flow.

Awesome to hear! I really want one but was kind of surprised that it only had on average 3.5/5 ratings on the stores.

I'm also in the market to buy either the 130 or 150. I have a 92 corner which one would be sufficient?

I did have a snail get in my 150 but it was a baby snail and did break a blade. But was able to glue it back on no problem.

130 on a 34g frag tank. 36x18x12. Running it at 60%. No trouble with snail yet. They are also updating the blades and making a foam cover for it soon. 130 will be more then enough on a 40b.

Any idea when this update is happening?

I have two in a 75 that alternate. one is set at %40 and the other is set at %50, I have had them in the tank for two months and I am really happy how they move the water in the tank.

Yea I think I am going to go with a 130

I've had an XF150 since last September and an XF130 since January, and I have a breeding population of Euplica snails and haven't had any trouble. I've seen them get shredded by both models, and even had a large dwarf cerith try a suicide pact with a nerite on the 150, the dwarf cerith got lodged in it and the nerite was all SUCKAHHHHH and slithered off. The Gyre never stopped spinning and all the blades are in perfect shape.

All I can add is that I've had a Gyre 150 now for 3 months and it's a good pump. No problems and great comptroller, flexibility. I just ordered a second. True evaluation will take a year or so.

Just keep a close eye on the cable outer core near the Power-head. It is prone to going very hard and cracking exposing the electrical wires. I would not take a Gyre for free after two have failed on me.
