Thank you all so much for your feedback . Do I need specific bacteria for saltwater fish vs Reef ? Or is it all the same ?

How can I add nutrients to grow the bacteria and keep the Refugium alive ?

Thank you !

The bacteria will live and feed off of ammonia which comes from fish waste and uneaten decomposing food. The bacteria is limited by the waste.

This is why you don’t add a huge bioload all at once as the there may not be enough bacteria to process the ammonia. It will grow to the point where it can handle it and then stay there until you increase or decrease the available ammonia.

That is totally different than the nutrients needed to grow macro algae.

For that you need nitrates and phosphates and perhaps a few other things if you don’t do water changes.

I do not recommend trying to grow macro algae’s so early on as you will most likely not have enough nutrients to support it.

It works like this:

don’t move any degree of old unrinsed sand to the new tank

use either all new sand, pre rinsed to zero cloud, or rinse your old sand to zero cloud then transfer. You can skip the cycle in the tank transfer and be instantly ready. Every tank in that thread is a skip cycle no delay setup.
