There are no dumb questions in this hobby :p
Have you read some of MY questions???

Fwiw not all tap water is the same from place to place. There are lots of different rules laws and chemicals used at different times of the year.

We get a green alge in our water storage tank. So our shower water smells like alge or bleach.

Hahaha. I can't use my tap water..it also smells like chlorine and registers 250 on tds:eek:

I could only wish for 100-250 TDS. My TDS meter reads 400+ going in and 0 coming out of my RO/DI system. Also reads 400+ on my hand-held meter when testing tap water directly.

It sounds like it may not be plumbed correctly. That's an excessive amount being missed and with a TDS that high you're likely burning through DI resin. I'd be checking the connections, PSI, prefilter and membrane.

if your tap water is 400+ TDS not unusual as my tap water runs in the high 400 to low 500 get between 8-11 after the membrane and zero after di on two 150 god membranes with a booster pump that keeps pressure at 130 lbs on membranes.

That is insane. My tap water is usually 4-8 TDS coming INTO my RODI. It's read as low as 2 TDS before going through anything.

Where on earth do you live??

Sorry after re-reading my statement I can see the confusion. I have 0 TDS coming out of the RO/DI. I was stating that I wish my TDS was 100-250 going into my RO/DI system as my city water fluctuates between 415 - 535 TDS currently.

Lake Havasu City Az.The water is so hard here that almost everyone has a water softener and ro for drinking. Hardness runs 28-40 grains, middle of the desert next to Colorado river, most of Arizona and Southern California has good tasting water but very hard good for Cichlids but not a reef tank.

You live in NM I think they have hard water with high TDS also.
