I saw that. I don't have a QT tank yet. Didn't know it should have been on the top of my list. So I have to come up with something to help ease the distress of the fish while I find a QT tank.

I am reading the thread now and will do plenty of research before I subject the fish to anything else.

That looks like lymphocystis virus. There is no cure, but it is rarely fatal. It will go away on its own.

I read the thread, Thank you for sharing it with me!

I'm a little concerned as I don't have a QT tank to put my fish in. I'm not really confident on the treatment while the fish are in the tank. My only positive going for me is that I don't have true live rock yet.

Am I to understand that nothing i but will really help at this point. Maybe find a way to set up a QT tank quickly.

I'm more lost and confused as to my next step now than before. Am I just going to lose all the fish and have to start again after I leave the tank fishless for a few months.

Everything I've read so far points to MI.

I just can't believe I didn't know the signs to catch it earlier. I should have done better research (or turned to the internet and this forum earlier!!)

This thread is helping. Very blunt and useful in information. Curing Fish of Marine Ich

"And maybe something else." By looking at your photos, it definitely looks like MI around it's head and all over it's body. Then the something else might be lymphocystis virus. It's real hard to tell from just a photo. Aquaworld Aquarium - Lymphocystis Virus
That is one unhappy fish. I would get him in a quarantine tank immediately. I have a Raccoon, his name is Rocky. They are very timid fish and don't like to be harassed. I think by your photos that it has MI (Ich) and maybe something else?

You don't need a QT unless you have inverts or corals in the tank...

Bet you didn't think a few months ago that you'd have a hospital tank for fish and would be contemplating surgery on a fish?

OK. terrible thing about forums....I tend to post AS I'm researching not AFTER i'm done'

Thank you Palvyre.....I did look up what you suggested and it seems to look exactly the same! I feel somewhat better that it isn't a TERRIBLE case of MI. However I couldn't find (yet) if this is what is causing his terrible flashing. That is why i leaned toward the MI

Mike....Ricky doesn't have spots on him as of yet. I think what you might be looking at is my dirty glass on the tank. I've check on him a few times while reading and trying today. BUT that doesn't mean that he doesn't have it.

Why I'm thinking MI as well. In the mornings, becuase I have a fish that like to hang out around the return water pipe, has 'bubbles' on him. I see these as white spots and generally ask my better half! HE says they are just air bubbles. I am starting to think it may be MI because he hangs out at the top of the tank so much. (this is a Atlantic Tang)

My better half has had a tank before and knows more than I. SO i tend to trust him. (HAHA) I just want to learn this so I can have my own tank!

You all have helped out so much! I have another question!

Neal and I (he is my other half) have been having a discussion over our Atlantic Tang. He has brown spots that disappear once the lights come one. He seems to think that our fish is turning to is adult mightnight blue. I think something is wrong, maybe a parasite of some sort. But was a little concerned becuase of Ricky that this might be connected. (this is the same fish that I mentioned earlier that would hang out by the return water pipe and have what I see as white spots and Neal see's as air bubbles.)

What do you think? are they connected? Do I just worry to much about the fish?

Have you actually noticed white spots on the body of any fish yet, or just the tips of fins? And is it on just the butterfly? I agree it looks like lympho, I had a fish with that and it cleared up once I got an auto top-off system and the salinity stopped swinging up and down like crazy. But without more/clearer pics it is difficult to say.

Hmmm.....I have been fretting over this tank all morning. So i can't honestly tell you. :) I would say that there are NO white spots as of right now. I do have the spots on the Tang, but those are brown. (pic above)

My salinity level has been consistant. Not sure if that is something that would cause the Lympho.

It caused it for my fish, but really any stressor that could lower the immune system can cause Lympho.

The black ich that tangs often get is a completely different parasitic organism than MI, so it's possible that you have a case of black ich AND MI in your tank, but it's also possible you have a raccoon butterfly with lympho and a tang with black ich and no marine ich at all...

Try and get clearer pics if you can

Also I see what you mean here, it could be perceived as spots on the butterfly in that pic but when you look at the rest of the glass comparatively it might just look that way. If there is no white on the fish other than the tips of the fins, it might indeed be lympho.

I finally see those spots on outside the glass. (On my cell phone?) This is unrelated, but get a couple sheets of toilet paper and they will wipe right off. It really does work great. I'm still leaning towards Lympho. Look on the link I gave you it has a photo of a Raccoon with it.
