Radion G5 Blue or Pro? Heh...

Still debating which light is best for Acropora that will please my eyes the most, but also provide longterm coral health. My gut feeling is the Pro will satisfy my whiter tank preference, but it lacks the Cyan and Lime colors which really breaks my heart.

However, the Blue lacks the whites that I would love to have in the fixture, but the Blue will make the tank pop hard. Man Man...what a mind tweak. Please give me your opinions and feedback.

I have the blues and yes it makes the tank pop, and I’ve seen others complain that it’s “too blue” but I don’t think it is. The whites that it does have running the AB+ spectrum looks great and I don’t think it’s “too blue” at all.

I do both, best of both worlds. Did this because I felt all blues were too blue. Either will grow corals.

Considering both myself, you summed up the dilemma well, you have got me thinking about it, think I can live without the whites but wouldn’t want to be short changed on the blues.
I can’t see myself sitting looking at the tank missing the whites but I would with the blues.

You can also make the blues more white. While you can make the whites more blue, they will not be at the same intensity as the blues.

I went with the pro and added a reef brite xho which was perfect!

I went with the blues. I made this choice because I had been running Gen3 Radions on the Coral Lab’s AB+ spectrum, which is what the blues are supposed to match with all the channels at 100%. In reality I think the blues are actually a bit whiter than my Gen3 lights set to the AB+ spectrum.

But really I think the point of having the two options is so that you can utilize all the channels fully. It always bothered me a bit that with my Gen3 lights I was running a number of channels at 20% to get the AB+ spectrum. That was potential PAR that was ‘wasted’ because the LED’s were the wrong spectrum. With the Gen5 blue lights I can run all the channels at 100% to fully utilize all the lights and still get the spectrum I want.

If you want a whiter light, then go with the Gen5 Pro and you can get the same effect. You can run all the channels at 100% to fully utilize all the LED’s and still get the spectrum that you want.

The pro can be tuned to be more blue, but you lose PAR as you do because you’re turning some of the channels down. Likewise the blue can be tuned to be more white, but with the same effect.

If you want a white spectrum then get the pro lights.

I was worried about the harshness of the white LED and that was a major driving force in my decision to purchase the G5 Blue. I don’t regret it. Having that said, my tank’s footprint is not massive - 24 x 22.6 x 21. I am running AB+ with all channels at 100%.

I'm a little confused here. I have the the blues also but when running the AB+ the channels are not all at 100%. It takes out the reds, whites, cyan and lime. Is the not the AB+ spectrum?

I have one of each. I agree with JGT. Get the Blue because you can lower the blue channels to get the white you want and get more PAR than you would have with the PRO.

That is not AB+. All the channels at 100% is AB+ on the blues.

The blues are for frag tanks full of collector corals and pop like a florescent Pollock poster. BTW can't you adjust the pro to blues? my g4s are running blue in the evenings. Me I would get the pros

I had the two side by side and after adjusting the BLUE, I couldn't tell the difference between the two. BLUE had a little more PAR though.

Go with the Blues, the pro has more whites and not a better spectrum to grow corals. Pro is only good if mixed or added to by another light.

That is not AB+. All the channels at 100% is AB+ on the blues.
But on that template or an other it does set your colors does it not?

Look at the ATI Straton or Philips Coral Care gen 2.

I have the blues(Radion gen 5 that is,not the mental kind) and it's not on the AB+ spectrum until it's done ramping up. When it 's ramping up it hits the corals with a lot of blue light. I pretty sure I read this on Radion's website.
