Radion G5 Blue or Pro? Heh...

I have the blues(Radion gen 5 that is,not the mental kind) and it's not on the AB+ spectrum until it's done ramping up. When it 's ramping up it hits the corals with a lot of blue light. I pretty sure I read this on Radion's website.

Probably right. I get a lot of blue ramping up and down. Then i believe it hits the AB+ spectrum. It was just the way I read the graph where it showed nothing but blues, violet and UV at 100%.

Those Cyan and Limes though!!

There's 18 more Cool Whites on the Pro. (Huge difference)
8 more Royal Blues on the Blue.
8 more Regular Blues on the Blue.
2 less Reds on the Blue.
The Blue has 4 Limes, but the Pro has 6 Greens. (I'd take the Limes over the plain greens)
UV's are the same on both.
2 more Violets on the Blue.
10 Cyan on the Blue....Pro has none.
Pro has 6 Warm Whites...Blue has none.
What did I miss??

I've watched enough video and I'm finally convinced that the G5 has great spread. Before, I wouldn't touch an LED fixture for that very reason. I'd feel pretty good running one now. I may eat my words later. I do want to give it a go because I can always slap them In a DX18 later.

You can see how peaky that G3 was....that always drove me away from LED's. I hate peaky lighting.

Repeating what has been already said.

With Radion, AB+ is a popular setting for coral growth and coloration. That is what I used to use with my G4 as well.

Blue version of the fixture has the same mix of AB+. So essentially, you are buying the lights as you intend to use it.

Considering both myself, you summed up the dilemma well, you have got me thinking about it, think I can live without the whites but wouldn’t want to be short changed on the blues.
I can’t see myself sitting looking at the tank missing the whites but I would with the blues.

Mine has plenty of whites. I really do not think it’s too blue at all.

Honestly I have frag tanks that are led only tanks, but my main grow out tank is t5’s with supplemental led’s. you just can’t beat the growth and color I get from that combo yet with just led’s. I live in Florida and watched the progress of wwc tanks and TSA grow out tanks. And the best tanks they have are t5 at metal halide at TSA. And wwc has a tough time on acros and has redone there systems multiple times because of the limited success in their systems for acros. I not trying to start a debate, but this is the honest truth about these stores and led’s for acros.

The G5 is less peaky. The shadowing is still a thing, though, subject to tank dimensions and number of units. What size tank and how many G5s are you considering?

I don’t think I need a ton of light. My new tank will be 105/G. I plan to put about (3) XR15’s over it. Then supplement with T5’s later. My rock structure is roughly 41”L x 17”W. I was gonna hang some T5’s first and then supplement with Radions later, but decided to get the Radions up first.

Can anybody elaborate about how blue the pro can be tuned and how white the blue can be tuned.?

Is the blue very windex looking or can it be tuned white for pics? Can the pro be tuned blue enough for good color pop?

I was finally able to get a first hand, in person view of the Blue & Pro side by side and the decision was easy at that point. I went with the Pro because it fits exactly what I like & want out of the lights. To me, the Blues were too blue for my space. The Pro is the perfect amount of Blue for my taste.

Its like the Ford or Chevy, or Harley or Honda conversations. Both choices are solid, but you need to do what makes you happy. My suggestion would be to talk to your LFS and get them to set a demo for you. Whatever choice you make will serve you well. Good luck!

That is my next step. Gonna go look at them soon. I know a few reefers that run them and I think a few LFS have them up.

I have a feeling my thoughts will be exactly like yours. I think the pro will suit my taste better. I just hate to give up those Lime’s and Cyan’s on the blue. Thx for your input!

Pretty sure they did, but can't seem to find it. They did a solid video on the Pro
I found this review to be very useful, although I will say that the Pro looks way better in person than on the video

Yeah this video is very good comparing the blues, wish if compared the whites more than it went into.

I went with the blues, because that matches the spectrum that I want to run. This allows me to run all the channels at 100% and fully utilize all the LED’s that I paid for and get the most light out of the fixture. Before I went with the G5 blues I had been running G3 lights with the AB+ spectrum. This meant that a lot of the channels were only running at 20%, so I really wasn’t using all of the light that the fixtures could provide or that I had paid for. This makes the blues an excellent fit for me.

I can still dial down the blues and make the spectrum more white for pictures if I want, but for my day to day use I feel like I’m taking full advantage of all of the channels and everything the fixture can provide.

On the other hand, if you want to run a whiter spectrum then the same would apply to the G5 pro lights. You would be able to run all the channels at 100% and take full advantage of the fixture and get the whiter spectrum you want. It doesn’t make sense to get the G5 blues and then dial down the blues.

Form what I keep hearing it seems like most people are going to the pros. A lot of people started with the blues and switched to pros for vlog videos and pictures, but also feel longterm coral health is better with more white light.

My gut is telling me to get the pros, but I think I would enjoy either fixture.
