Just a few shots of "the tree". I picked up a couple of hammers from the LFS to replace the one that died. I only mounted this yellow, as the other I picked up broke when I went to take it off of the frag plug. I think it'll make it, but it needs to recover.

A close up of the yellow. This thing is so BRIGHT! It doesn't really come through in this picture, but the two heads behind it are also yellow/gold hammers. This is in another league.

Looking good! I like the euphyllia tree for sure. I try to tag along in the 40 breeder threads as that is what I have.

Thanks for the kind words guys. I just have one more frag of hammer (a morph I have never even seen pictures of before) and then just need to let it fill in.

I've been debating what to do around the "trunk" of the tree. So far I have those blastos which seem to like it there and some zoas, which seem to be getting too much shade. Once it fills in it'll be kind of dark under there.

Any recommendations for cool low light corals?

Here's a little better shot of the "actually yellow" hammer. You can see the gold hammer in the back and the bicolor-green down in front to compare.

It really depends on how low of light. Micros(formerly acans), chalices, & leptastrea are some of my favorite "lower light" or "partially shaded" choices. Then of course there are always NPS's like sun corals that are really cool but will require regular feedings.

Yeah, I was already planning to put acans around the bottom of the larger rock on the left of the tank.

The sun corals are gorgeous. I'd have to do more research on them, but I do really like some of the NPS gorgonians so maybe if they accept similar foods.

My first thought were chalices, but also never kept any, so no hands on knowledge on those either. Luckily I have google.

Thanks everybody.

So my 2nd hand Skimz sn143 is acting up. After I cleaned it the pump would not start, and then after fiddling with it, it started up but with limited power.

Not sure what the best route to take is? Just get something different all together or just replace the pump (which are known to randomly fail) for about $120. The guy I bought it from just replaced the pump under warranty about 3 months ago.

Apparently BRS is now selling an updated "more reliable" version of the pump. I'm just a little skeptical I guess.
But with it being a little over a $100, it would be much cheaper than purchasing an entirely new skimmer.
I also really like the skimmer (other than it having the tendency to stop working if unplugged or put into feed mode) it is completely inaudible with the stand doors closed, produces BLACK skimate, and is super energy efficient with the dc pump.
Thinking I'm going to take the gamble and get the "new and improved" pump.

Sorry for no updates in a while. With the skimmer being down for over a month, and then the hurricane that killed the power for a few days the tank hasn't been in picture perfect condition for some time. These shots were too good not to share.

So I just noticed this right now. My favorite hammer coral is beginning the spawning process.

I've never had this happen before so I'm pretty excited!

I'll keep you guys posted when things become more noticeable/actually start to happen.

I know it is hard to notice but there are small "eggs" forming inside a few of the tips.

nice job! I was thinking about picking up a 40B. At one point I was planning a 29 and have all the equipment for it. The 40 would be a nicer footprint though.

My zoa rock is starting to fill in, and I can't get enough of this green hammer. Unfortunately, it hasn't produced eggs again since I posted the other day.
