On a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being an incredibly gorgeous tank with little room for improvement,

Poor quality images but they're latest ones I've taken (about a month and a half old). I went with a 7 and plenty of room for improvement.

A sad 3 for me. Really the only things I find to be reasonably good at the moment are the water parameters, the control cabinet, and some corals. I keep losing new livestock, pests pop up, some of my equipment is failing, lots of frustration. I also need to clean out my cabinet. While most of my corals are really healthy, I don't have the funds to expand, and I cannot figure out why fish are still dying. I don't have an updated pic, but I have a couple from a few weeks ago (both the fire and angelfish have since died):

I give a 5 to mine. Can't wait for the 75g or 90g upgrade to remove or isolate the GSP that is growing like crazy.

There’s ALWAYS room for improvement..... I gave my tank an eight. I’m still vaguely dissatisfied with the general state of reef lighting and I’d be keen to have more comprehensive testing capabilities. And, of course, the tank is too small LOL.

Waffled between 6-7 for mine. It’s not nearly as beautiful as many on here. But in its current state I am quite happy with it. Most corals showing signs of growth. The clam is doing well. Just a little nuisance algae and some cyano. I went 6 because of my recent unexplained loss of my older clownfish. Was older but smaller than the other. Think it still tried turning male and that was the cause. Was happy and healthy otherwise. But marking myself down due to that.

Why I made this thread was to see what was holding people back from having a higher rating, even if self assigned. Any ideas?

I rated mine a seven. I don’t think I have any limiting factors other than the size of the tank, just need more time for things to grow in.

Gave mine an 8.
It’s come a long way over the years and I’m happy with growth & colors.
Weakness is poor frag placements and lost a lot of long term fish in a silly quest to be ich free.

I don't think any true reefer would ever rate their own tank as a 10. To me that would mean there's absolutely nothing else that could be done to make the system better.

Some on here look better than mine but i love my tank and to me it’s a 10!

There is a point where it seems there is nothing that can be improved besides just letting it grow more. When parameters are in check and everything is smooth. I don't want to be the person who claims 10, but for me personally, I think my tank has hit a 9. Where there is nothing I can currently change to improve it

I rated mine an 8, maybe it’s a 9, but not a 10 because that implies (to me, at least) perfection. I do a lot of diving and am always struck how much better natural sunlight is to our artificial reef lights. So that’s one thing necessary to get to a ten. I keep a lot of fish, thus a lot if food, so my nitrates and phosphates are too high. I can run GFO and a sulfur denitrator, but a tank that’s a 10 wouldn’t need to. Comprehensive, continuous testing would allow me to KNOW what elements are deficient and what elements require dilution.

I was a musician. Perfect does not exist in art and reefing is art. Plus, my tank is beautiful but I know the in and out of daily routine. That's what keeps it at 8. Work work work!
