Ready to murder my damsels.

I've always loved these guys. I rarely see adults in anyone's tanks. They are way hardier than the green chromis, and look almost as nice, just get a bit bigger. Once I upgrade my 75 gallon to something bigger, I'll definitely have a school of them again. I had a school in my old 110 gallon, and in my old 380 gallon, and they never bothered anything.
You sure you're talking about Staghorn Damsels? I think mine are definitely mature, probably full size, and they scrap with each other all day. That was okay with me. Added lots of movement to tank but attacking me is NOT okay. Knocking off corals is NOT okay. My display is 200g. You'd think it big enough...

I was stupid enough many years back to add some black mouth damsels. Oh goodness did things get bad. They attacked all fish and each other and were huge! I got all but one out and gave to our local aquarium (I was a volunteer there). I warned them not to put together, but they did for qt and they had less by the end. :)

I had the one in the tank until tear down as I could never catch it. It was my old 210g that I had to tear down to replace due to leaking. Man, I hated those fish.

I currently have 6 azures and 3 talbots and they may chase each other once in a while, they are great and peaceful. Only issue is the lemons (I have a pair) taught a few azures how to bite my wrist when in the tank. It is like watching a swarm attack. Luckily, none hurt much at all and the azure bluff mostly. The lemons bite though.

I heard this story so many times lol. Buy a eel there a real problem solver

Yup! I had a group in my 380 gallon. The 10" niger trigger, 6" pinktail trigger, and 5" bluethroat trigger kept them in line. Plus I had a 15" vlamingii tang, an 8" koran angel, a 6" asfur angel, 2x 5" regal angels, an 8" hippo tang, and a bunch of various Zebrasoma and Acanthurus tangs. The damsels never stepped out of line.

I have 2 male smithi damsels in my 75 gallon now, along with 2 green chromis (I plan to add more). I also am looking for some healthy Chrysiptera hemicyanea, and healthy Chrysiptera rollandi. I love the damsels, they help make the tank look more like a real reef

This kind of reminds me of those mantis shrimp threads and we all know who won those battles.

I may try other smaller ones. No lemons though!

Idk you might miss them! Lots of personality!

that is why I've kept them but they are a bit too much for my tank now! Yes, I'll miss them. Except for biting me and tearing my tank up lol's. 1 or 2 might not be too bad. But 6 is too many!

I swear, I'm going to commit murder tonight! I have 6 staghorn damsels, between 2-3 or 3.5 inches. They constantly chase each other, hit the surface and splash water 6' away, getting me at my desk. Fine, I can live with that. Did I mention that I had ordered 6 lemon damsels and got these by error 4 years ago? They are also pigs and the reason I have to overfeed just to be sure the other fish get food.

So this last week or so, they have been attacking my hand in the water. And not just a hit and run like the meanie clowns. But a concentrated attack until I move my hand or arm! Try gluing corals with that going on....

But the worst? I came home from work to find 4 corals on the ground. One of them, one of my sticks was broken, snapped off. So swearing, I start regluing and fighting them off with a baster. Got all done. And an hour later? There is another coral on the ground! WHAT THE HECK (family forum!!!) I just righted the candy cane and left it for now.

So tonight I am ordering a fish trap and out those 6 go. I've never liked them, they take up good real estate for other fish but like a responsible pet owner, they were mine so I kept them. Enough is enough!

PS anyone want a free damsel... Or 6... Did you see I said free....

Here is the fish trap. My son in law tried it and it works.

Wait when you say corals on the ground you mean they knocked them off and they were on the substrate right? They didn’t actually physically eject the corals from the tank? Because that would be “I’m not even mad I’m impressed “ territory

Lol's. Snapped 1 stick apart, knocked 4 others off. I wouldn't put it past them if there was no lid. They hit the surface when chasing each other and splash water 6 ft away to where I sit while at my computer!!

I had 2 blue yellow tail damsels in my very first saltwater tank in 2005, one of them decided to murder the other, they always fought with each other despite being told that they were peaceful at the time of buying them, that was in my 160 litre tank, he then got rehomed to the 240 litre tank and then a house move and another tank upgrade too, he was `the dictator' of each tank attacking any new tankmates even when he was moved finally to the 625 litre tank.

He finally died last year at 16 years old and I do miss the little terror but I am thinking about getting some green chromis or three to replace him if they're more peaceful but still researching them

After reading your story am I happy I didn't get those domino damsel 2 weeks ago when the guy at the LFS said they are 50% off and I had no clue about damsel...phew.

Too bad you didnt get the lemon damsels you originally sought...mine is the model citizen..even a little shy around my agressive flame angel...
I'm not too sure about domino's... I think it depends on the fish,,some I've had in the past were terrorists..others not too bad

great stories all! There are some other damsels I'd be willing to try but they have to stay small! 3.5" is not small for an aggressive fish lol's. Can't wait for my fish trap to get here. Those terrorists are such piggies, they should be easy to catch. Will stick them in the observation tank with the other 2 clowns until I make a trip to a lfs. I dread that as it is only a 40 gal! Survival of the meanest I'd guess
