Reagents Same for Hanna Phosphate/Phosphorus Checkers?

I've got reagent packages for both Checkers and assume they are interchangeable between the two different instruments. All are potassium disulfate and seem to be about the same amounts per package.

I do not believe they are interchangeable. And - the only way to get a 'firm answer' would be to call Hanna technical support tomorrow. There are also reagents for high and low range, etc - which do you have? Phone: (800) 426-6287 • (401) 765-7500

Since the 2 reagent replacements have different SKU's, etc - I would just check with the company. Another question - why check both? Can't you just calculate Phosphorous from Phosphate levels? Or were you planning to just use one.

Just going to use one and don't want to throw out any reagents if they are useable in the other instrument.
 
So by purchasing what I thought was the wrong reagent for the phosphorus checker ? I bought the phosphate reagent .

Yep, that is my question and I hope they are the same but will certainly confirm with Hanna tomorrow
 
Some of the Hanna checkers for phosphorus and phosphate measure in ppb and ppm and don’t know if the reagents make a difference, but I would think they would. I use Hanna checker HI736 and stick with what the checker requires for the reagents. Others on the forum may be able to answer with more knowledge on these reagents and if they are interchangeably.

Great - IMHO, the best is to call hanna in the morning - they will easily answer your question (they nearly always answer the phone immediately). If they could be used interchangeable, to me, there would be no reason for different SKU's for the replacement chemicals. Having googled it for my self a while ago - I didn't see anything that they were interchangeable.

One issue is that just because the reagents measure the same at one level of phosphorous/phosphate, doesnt mean they will work at all ranges (especially since they are ULR). I agree with one of the links that said 'basically there is no clear answer online' - its mostly guesswork. I have to contact Hanna tomorrow - so will ask that question as well - and report back
 
Just do some tests yourself using the 'wrong' reagent compared to the 'right' reagent.

The phosphate checker I believe is lr

seeing as I ordered the wrong reagent refill I’ll try and see if I get the same result . But the way I understand it , it would make sense if they were slightly different
 
This does not answer the question, because the test may measure differently depending on whether the PO4 is .001 vs .10.
Phosphorus and phosphates are different .
Multiply phosphorus times 3.066 , the product being phosphates .
It’s not as easy as billion to million

There is actually a ULR phosphate and a ULR Phosphorous checker

I never said it was that easy - I was making a general comment. And the numbers weren't meant to be actual numbers - but rather just illustrations. I also mentioned that there was no reason to check both Phosphate and phosphorous - (becasue they are related by a calculation).

My only point was to say that you can't just do a test with one Reagent and if its the same that proves you can use either one interchangeably (this was in one of the links provided).

For example if the real concentration of a chemical - lets call it 'X' is '1 ppm' in a tank. You may get '1' whether you use either reagent. If the concentration of 'X' is 0.01 or 10 ppm, using either Reagent may not give the same result.

EDIT - PS I wasn't referring to your particular problem - but rather the OP's.
