Real reef rock worth it? Or BRS reef saver

i am going to definitely scape my new tank with dead or artificial pest free rock. I read some good reviews on real reef eco-artificial rock. It's cool but also a bit expensive. Is it worth it to say the BRS reef saver? It's more than double the price so trying to justify and decide

I like BRS. Yeah it's white, but that changes in just a couple months.

True, but reef saver does the job and is much easier to scape with. Aesthetically it's better too, but that's just my opinion.

Hello everyone in my opinion a mixture of pukani n reef saver rocks work. I too was on the fence of getting liver or dead rock. I choose the dead rock bc it's cheaper n safer. Plus setting up a reef tank is gonna be challenging enough bc am new to it and getting live rocks with pest is just gonna add to my headache that I don't want to deal with.

Lol. Am sure some of us has. But it's a chance alot of us don't want to take bc of all the issues that come with live reef rocks. Don't get me wrong I contemplated with it for a long time almost a year before giving in to dead rock. The cons were more than the positive IMO..

Agree 100%...........pros outweigh the cons.

I have the Walt Smith 2.1 rock. It can't tell that it has any porosity. It's basically purple blobs of concrete. It looks nice, and I like the shapes, but if I had started the tank (I bought it used, complete setup) I don't think I would have used it.

Reef Saver, Marco, and Reef Cleaners are all basically the same. I've got rock from both BRS and John at Reef Cleaners and would happily order from either again.

I looked at the Real Reef artificial rock in store when I was looking for rock. They'd just taken a delivery so it was straight out of the box. What put me off it was that there was plenty of breakage, exposing the white rock underneath the purple. The white underneath looked a bit like concrete. So you had purple rocks with all these white patches on the ends of broken off protrusions. It looked ugly to me so I passed and went with another dry base rock that was much cheaper. This was the Real Reef brand rock, imported from the USA, not a local version. Maybe international shipping takes its toll, but it did look prone to breaking.

I scaped my entire 75 with Reel Reef. I love it. Any white portions that showed from being broken were covered quickly with real coraline. Pretty much every bit of my rocks were covered by real coraline in no time at all, so the painted portion was really only there as a place saver or to make the tank look pretty while I waited for the real stuff to grow. I had 120 lbs of it.... mixed large, medium and small pieces. turned out great.

Check out CaribSea's Life Rock. Their man made rock is seeded with bacteria and coralline color. Very nice pieces. Expensive but worth it.
