Recharge anion media

I watched a video on recharging DI media. Notice that it is for mixed beds. If I just want to recharge anion do I have to use that much NaOH till it floats seems like a ton. Any Idea about the concentration of NaOH and volume needed per pounded of exhausted anion resin? i have about 10 pounds I am trying to recharge.

I’m sure there’s a more technical reply coming but I just make sure there’s an inch or two of clear solution under it when it floats. I use 18%. Standard 2 litre kitchen jug.

how did you come to 18%? just the point where it floated? ya that is the same % recommended in the video.
 
Using lye it pretty much instantly recharges. Not sure about the 18%. I mixed as the article says, i use powder form. Definitely rinse well and run water through until the meter drops. (disconnect anything after) It will show way high for a few minutes. (well, mine did)
 
well dont know what Im doing wrong. using 18% 100% sodium hydroxide. The anion media floats to the top i collected it washed it off with DI water and put it on the RO with 12TDS output. after about 30 mins of running it stops at 20 TDS output from the anion media. keep having the same result 3rd try. How can it go up and stay up at exactly 20 TDS from the anion chamber?

Are you not running a cation also?
 
An anion media alone or a cation media alone used against tap water or ro membrane effluent will actually raise TDS, not lower it. That is because H+ and OH- that are released as other ions bind have higher conductivity than any other ions in the water.

Run thru cation the anion. Should come down after some residual lye comes off.

I see! indeed the water out of the anion media is high pH. ok great so I just need to add a mixed bed and not bother testing after the anion media.

yes, a mixed bed or cation media after the anion.

Shouldn't it be cation then anion?
Or is this just for testing?

I was not specifying the order, but I cannot see how it actually matters with an anion and a cation resin. I’d put a mixed bed after an anion, but that too may not matter.
 
I wonder if most water is more anion or more cation out of the RO. I am running anion, anion, mixed.

The primary issue is CO2 in the water, which acts as an anion (carbonate) and burns through anion-binding resins.
 
Any have an idea how much lye I need to use now that I am doing anion only? And don’t need to separate by density.
 
This is the exact solution I've been searching for. I'm on a well and the CO2 from the well exhausts my anion when making about 100 gallons of water. My system is 850 gallons so between water changes and RODI top off ( 5 Gallons a day ) I barely get 1 1/2 weeks out of an Anion resin fill. I run 3 anions in a row along with a cation and a mixed bed to keep my tds to a minimum before having to change out. Thanks so much for posting this thread.

This is going to save me sooooo much money.

My well is 42 TDS but yes, the anion burns through. I may get about 150 gallon then time to recharge.
