Red mushroom coral eaten?

I got a very small red mushroom coral frag last night, it just had one head. I glued it to a rock like the zoa I got which is fine but I wake up to find that the mushroom is gone but the little base it was on is still there did something eat it or is it possible that it just fell off? I do have a flame angel which I know are a risk but I recently started getting into corals it hasn't touched tooth coral I have. I have 2 firefish a black Ocellaris clown a Picasso clown and 2 small blue neon gobies. 2 skunk cleaner shrimp, 2 actual peppermint shrimp not the camelback ones, 1 green emrald crab, about 20 blue legged hermits, and some assorted snails. What could be the culprit or is it possible it fell off? Anyone have experience with a flame angel making a quick snack of a mushroom?

Probably not eaten, but lodged in a corner somewhere. You really can't glue a mushroom to a rock... it will slime like the dickens and let go, then get blown around the tank. Best bet is to put it in a cup with rubble rock and let it attach itself.

I would say it detached but if you see the foot still attached it's little worrisome.

What are your opinions based on the pic? My girlfriend took that for me because I'm at work but was it eaten maybe?

Honestly it's hard to tell. It could be a baby that was under the mushroom, or it could the base of the mushroom. Sometimes mushrooms just release and leave are part of their foot behind, it's how they reproduce. It could also be leftovers from being eaten, but I've never personally experienced that and I hope that's not the case here.

I experience mine detaching when first introduced all the time. It will probably attach somewhere in the tank. You can search for it, or let it find its own home. I doubt it was eaten.

Could it be Coraline Algae?

No there's some coralline on that rock but it's definitely a mushroom frag I bought last night it was red and I glued the base to the live rock. And could that little piece if it was a boot regrow into the mushroom again?

So I just got home and I can't even tell the mushroom was on the piece it came on so is it likely it dislodged? I can't even see the boot of it. Couldn't it get sucked into the filter or skimmer?

I am sure it's floating somewhere in your tank. Mushrooms are very finicky especially if they are young.... I have hard time with few of my JBs and kryptonites. They are still the cup after 3 weeks and not fully attached as you can see in the picture.

Ill bet your mushroom is somewhere in the tank. The situation is common. Its not a bad thing for the foot to tear, if it did. Out of of all our corals I think the corallimorpharians are most like the Actiniaria (Sea Anemones) for how they become mobile and have a very similar base design. Sometimes the tentacles are very similar (minus long tentacle anemones, but more like BTA's) compared to carpet mushroom, st thomas, and Ricordea. They even ball up like an anemone when unhappy and sleeping.

That being said ive had mushrooms that like elvis appear to have left the building, but later find them attached to a new location. Ive even had a discosoma mushroom float into a cave, had the cave filled in with sand by my D goby, months later the cave was opened again by my D goby, and I was able to see it still attached to a rock inside the cave. No light, no current, and I imagine very little food was available during that time. Corallimorpharians are amazingly hardy and adaptive

And looking at your first picture I would say there was a piece of the foot/base left behind. Give it a couple weeks for it to develope.

Yeah the next day that foot wasn't there so it may have moved

Ive not tried this but Ive heard you can put a mushroom in a food processor, chop it up into pieces, dump the pieces back into the tank, and given time find mushrooms growing everywhere. Its also common practice to frag a mushroom like its a pizza. Cutting it with a razor into wedges. When you really upset mushrooms they will expel their insides. Looks like intestines. No worries though, they seem to "bounce" back really well

I do have one species that I believe is either actinodiscus or rhodactis that is developing highlighter yellow bubbles that wwc has trade marked with the term "bounce". If your not sure if your mushroom is of bounce lineage just call them bubbles.

I doubt that it would have moved also. The pieces left behind from a move generally remain in place. These pieces will shrink into almost nothing at first tho. If its truely gone then they may have melted which could mean you have your chemistry out of whack. If your not seeing any other problems in the tank and are testing within normal parameters I would give it a little time. How is the flow at the location where you had put the mushroom?
