red sea coral pro salt

I have had about four and a half gallons mixed with this salt stirring for about two days, I got the bucket just over a week ago from brs

For this test
SG just over 1.023

Mg tested at 1350

My calcium test kit is out of service and need to order a new one, reagent b is clogged up or something.

Alk - 8.4 dkh, this was tested using a redsea pro test kit three times

I am going to bump up the SG and retest a little later.

Like I said. I found it does not mix consistent bucket to bucket. You found alk at 8.4.
They advertise 12 dkh for the coral pro. I've seen 9-14 personally.
I think the longer it sits mixing, the alk drops out. But this is just my opinion.
Maybe someone could test it on a day 1 mix, then see how if drops each day?

The 175 gal bucket of coral pro is $64 by me.
200 gal ESV is $62 by me

water has been circulating for 5hrs
i usually do a waterchange after 5 hrs of circulating but for testing purposes i will test and then change water tomorrow
to see if theres any change.

I have been using Red Sea CP for a little over a year now, great results. The few random times I tested a fresh batch, as recent as 3 weeks ago, the results were pretty true to the label claims. Alk was at 12.6 dkh, Cal around 450 and Mag was at 1400

Sounds like you pretty much got what was expected. BTW, what is your specific gravity on this batch and how did you measure it?

Since you're not using a refractometer and I'm asking for purposes of comparing - have you ever gotten your swing-arm meter calibrated? They typically run low by .002 or more points.

Will be interested to see the results at 1.025 - alk will predictably follow overall salt concentration, so we'll see how much of a bump you get.

Sounds like you pretty much got what was expected.

I'd have to agree with the refractometer...Probably are lower than you think on SG IMO.

I just cleaned my 44 gallon Brute out today as it had a buildup of clay from the past 6 months of using the salt. It's currently filling with RO/DI water so should be full tomorrow and I'll do a water test of Alk, Calcium, and Magnesium @ 1.026.
