Completely agree. I had two 350w's mounted between 4 t5's on a 60g and loved it, perfect blends of lighting imo. Seems to be the way a large majority of the better looking mixed reefs are going.

Sweet build! I did the same mod with an a360we in the middle of my Spectra. Although you put a little more thought into yours and I'll try taking apart my kessil next time.

@WilRams the original modifications i found were all done on spectra's i saw one build where the individual put a whole AI hydra 52 in the location where the mogul MH bulb was. That's what started the train of thought of using a smaller Kessil in my light. I would love to see picts of your modification!

@WilRams I really like the Spread from the middle of the light. I wanted to put my light in the middle, but i didnt have a long enough cord to connect it to my apex, so thats why i put it on the side of the light.

I hear ya what I did was order something a 6 foot 3.5mm audio jack extension to run to my apex. The power cord was long enough to reach.

@nbagnardi i agree my only gripe is the return too, it is a little out of place facing foreword. I with at the very least it would have a lock line, or something we can "edit" where the flow is. I do like the NYOS skimmers, i haven't seen one in person, but my vertex 150 is very quiet and with out any problems. i am sure it would be quieter with a dc pump, but my return pump is the loudest thing in my sump at the moment, which i want to replace with the new vectra, or the neptune return pump, going to wait on more info on the neptune return pump. I like the ability to measure flow too.

the COR is awesome but not due out till 2016, i just upgraded to the vectra 2 days before MACNA... oops lol. the vectra is really quiet and has a fully controllable flow with a feed mode that slows the pump down to almost nothing so it doesn't create a back siphon IF you run ESL... i run an apex so thats useless to me until/if ecotech and neptune write a program for it. i gotta say the folks at proline aquatics have been absolutely amazing with helping me troubleshoot this, we've nicknamed it murphy haha.

@jaysauce Absolutely quiet. it took me a lil while to tune it, so that its quiet, but it is very quiet to most other AIO tanks that i have seen.

@ninjamyst Thank you for your compliments. I will take some new pictures of the sump area, i am not running a chiller right now, but I installed a shelf for my dosing pump. I am considering the Tunze fans to cool down the metal halid lights. I don't know if anyone has some used them.

@ninjamyst I have been following the aquarium hobby for a while, mostly through Nature aquariums, like those by Takashi Amano. I really like the Ap700. However because this was my first time back into the reef tank, I wanted to invest in a light that could be both Freshwater & reef just in case the reef tank doesn't work out for me. (plan B)

That is one thing I am waiting for the LED technology to "catch up" on. I am not sure why LED's cant be for both REEF and Nature Aquariums, especially the high end ones, like the AP700.

I wanted it to fit the decor of the house. When I was looking at tank options, it made more sense to purchase the reefer 450 and use the tank and sump then to have one built. The quote from reefsavy was double what I paid for the reefer 450 and the sump wasn't even included. I would have loved to have the reefsavy with the ghost overflow but the 450 just made to much sense.

Nice looking tank there bud i had noticed that a few had mentioned about the outlet from the return....
I was having a nightmare with mine, combined with the flow from the gyre was creating a vortex (not visible to the eye) along the front wall of the tank and was shifting my sand about to no end....

so i got a push fit /compression T piece from a plumber on site, removed the little nozzle bit of the reefer's out let and with a few wraps of PTFE tape, slipped it into the knuckle. Job done!!! i can still lift it above the water line when doing water changes so it doesn't syphon more than the sump can take and diverts the flow left and right across the back of the tank.

it may look unsightly in these pics, but i can assure you you would think it was made for the reefer's

I really like that idea! I noticed the same vortex on my tank as well, i thought it had to do with the Return pump i have that is reated for about double what Red Sea recommends, but i eventually want to build a manifold. Again I appreciate the suggestion!
