Red Sea Reefer

Do you like there sump over say a trigger sump?

I hear ya. This is my 8th tank I have ever owned and by far my favorite! All my other ones where from Bio cubes to custom built tanks and Sumps but this one is by far my favorite. I love the sump I moved over all my old parts from my previous tank including y Radion XR15 , Reef Octopus skimmer, dosing pump, Tunze Auto top off, Vortec Pump , and like I said I removed the auto top off that was provided and added an external 9 gallon acrylic reservoir. The sump has a lot of room and nice filter sock / bubble catch and a good smoking of space for skimmers or other equipment and then a bubble catch with another filter media and then the return pump reservoir. I like it much more then the trigger sump since you can put over filtration if you’d like.

On the 350 I bought a 10g Trigger ATO and Tunze 3155. It lasts ~8-9 days.
On the Nano I'm using a 5g bucket and a Neptune ATK (standalone). It lasts forever.

I'm lighting the 350 w/ (2) Mitras 7206. I had (4) AI Primes before that , but it wasn't strong enough light for me (and a bit spotty).
How you you like the Mitras 7206

Check out the Waterbox Aquariums if price is an issue. Seems like they are nearly the same thing, way cheaper, and I like their sump setup a little better. I have 250 that I took the sump out of and put an Icecap sump in it which is so much better than the glass one it comes with.

This is my Reefer 450. This tank is 6 months old. I absolutely love everything about this tank and stand. I've had issues with other pieces of equipment but the Reefer has been flawless from the start and has stayed that way. Skimmer, ozone, doser, reactor with ChemiPure, small fuge, ato, monitoring and control by Apex. Lights are 3 AI Hydra26HDs; I'm happy with them and my montis and acros are growing nicely. (However I'm going to try out the new AL T5 hybrid fixture when it's available.) My only wish is that this aquarium were bigger, maybe the next one will be.

I have the old school RDS 250 the one with the rounded corners and the sump in the back the tank is amazing, I’ve had it for at least five years maybe more, converted the T5s to two hydro 26s that fit into the hood perfectly cuts down on the heat, but also run a chiller. I have tons of corals and I like lots of fish about 20. Two sets of clowns two Barbonious anthis 3 wrasses 3 Angeles etc. I’ll enclos a picture.

I have the 350. I love everything about it and think it’s well worth the money. The only thing I don’t like is that it’s freakin heavy as hell!! :):)

I have the area Sea reefer 450 and I love it. The build of both the tank, sump and stand are top quality. The sump is large enough that It can easily accommodate the reactors and protein skimmers that I have. I like the fact that the stand has a separate compartment for my electronics and storage. The stand was relatively easy to assemble. I would caution that you make sure you adjust the doors on assembly. After the stump is pit in place it is impossible to adjust the doors because there isn’t enough room. With the rimless tank and open-topped sump there is a lot of evaporation. The small ATO(4.5 G) is really inadequate. I removed it and use a separate 6 G reservoir and an IceCap ATO. The filter socks are kind of a pain. They must be cleaned every 4 days and are expensive. Standard 4” socks will not fit

That is a very false statement... they are literally the same exact price for the Red Sea Reefer 425XL and the Waterbox Platinum 135.4.

Waterbox 135.4: 47.24” x 23.62” x 20.47” - $1949
Reefer 425XL: 47.0" x 22.0" x 22.6" - $1949

Buy the Waterbox if you like the Waterbox but do not make the decision because you think it's cheaper or a better deal than a Reefer. A point by point comparison will yield very insignificant differences.

Yeah, the Waterbox may indeed be a slightly better setup for the same money. But there's not enough out there to know yet. It's going to take at least a couple of years before we know how they hold up over time, how good their customer service is etc.

A little off topic but I have a 525 xl and I love it. The clarity of the glass is great and you really get your money worth with their systems. Red Sea customer service is amazing also!

I had the same issue with the the filter socks on my 525 XL. I ditched the socks and purchased two custom made plastic red cups that hold filter floss. They slide right into the filter sock holders. I just put filter floss in and when they get dirty I just pull them out and throw it away then replace with new floss. It saves me so much time now that I don’t have to wash socks any more.

Yeah they are pricey that is why I am trying to justify the cost, don't want the deluxe with the LED lights because I want to do that new T5s with the LED spots for Kessils
You will love the reefer, the cost is way worth it. Alse that T5 light works with all 3 major leds. Kessil, Hydra and radion. You can save a little going deluxe and the Hydra have an app and wifi so no extra controller needed to control them.

I might be missing something but they are not much cheaper than Red Sea Reefers.
