I don't know where to post this question. But is this red slime? Suggestions on ridding the tank of it?? It's only in this one spot.

Looks like Cyano yea. If its just in that one spot, I'd say you have a dead spot there, low flow. Try just blowing it off, and repositioning your powerheads

Skimmer is semi wet- fills up every couple days. I'm only running Purigen right now. Would you suggest running something else??

It's a 30 gallon tall so it's tough to get good flow throughout, I've got two powerheads working in opposite directions. Hob octopus skimmer rated up to 100g. Then for a hob filter that I've just got the sponge and some Purigen in.

I actually have some cyano which has been ongoing in only one front corner of my tank yet, it's right in front of one of Hydor nano pumps. Started running Chemi-pure Elite about a week ago and will be dropping a skimmer in this weekend. All Parameters are looking good even though nitrates and phosphates will be funny due specifically to the cyano. And, by "funny" I mean reading next to nothing. We'll see how it goes in the next couple weeks. It only shows up when the daylights are on then fades when night lights are on so, it's not seeming to want to get out of hand as of yet.

Cyno is a bacterial problem. We have discussed this just last week in other forums. You might want to back track and read what other reefers have done. I find that most all algae problems arise from overfeeding wheter its fish food or coral foods. Good skimming and good flow does help.

Ya might wana pull the sponge off line i heard there detiriuos "sorry about the spelling " traps and run some kind of carbon like the chemi pure elite it has gfo in it too and just try to adjust some water movement you just gotta make sure to pull the chemipure offline when exhausted to not leach any nit/phos back in the system. Most people i know with hang on back filters mod them into little refugiums as the replacement filteration for them are of no use for reef tanks but become harmfull .

Just move that rock alittle, or maybe flip it a bit, to get some more flow rolling in that area.

Haven't had a skimmer up until now so I'm hoping that solves the problem. I have a ratio of 2lbs/ gallon of live rock and no sponge (pulled it out soon as I got edumacated) in the HoB, just using filter floss which is changed weekly with a 10% WC.

Chemipure works great but i do not like adding chemicals to tank. When i have had cyno it seems to go away quickly when i lighten up on my feeding.

I've been battling cyano for a while now. I've recently added a skimmer, a sump refuge and chemipure elite. I don't like adding chemicals sonive stayed away from chemiclean.
For me, less feeding, less light and dropping temp to 76 has dramatically slowed its growth to almost none but what was there hasn't left. I just try to manually remove what I can ever few days and take my time, rather than chemically removing it. Yours is very small so make sure to get rid of it before it gets out of hand like mine did

Great news keep it up it will go away.

Chemipure Elite, it uses Ferric Oxide to remove Phsophates.

Chemically? No, its like running carbon, but this carbon contains ferric Oxide, like using GFO in a reactor.

oh, well it seems to be doing its job. actually ive noticed my skimmer hasnt been producing skimmate for the past few days. not sure if its because theres nothing to skim. i need to pick up a new test kit and see where im at. the fact that the cyano has seemed to almost stop growing tells me that im closer to where i want to be than before.

So I bought some red slime remover to help clean up the rest of my problem, but it doesn't do anything at all. Could I be dealing with something other than cyano? I dosed on Sunday and nothing, I actually had more of the stuff growing in there. So I **** off skimmer and took out chemipure and dosed again this morning. Nothing so far. I don't get it....

I have no protein skimmer. But did have your problem. My tank has been up for ten years. I upped my cleaning crew and got some emerald green crabs and snails plus blue legged crabs. Problem was eaten away in days. What lights are you using?
