RedSea Reefer S-1000 Build

The remaining fish are all looking really good it QT. Last night I had to take apart my Neptune Trident to clean out the sample line. It was pretty straight forward and its back to working perfectly.

I was planning on replacing the valve as well and came across this 40 mm gate valve if anyone is interested in checking it out.

Looks like a solid option, probably alot less work then switching to imperial sizing. It looks basically identical to the spears valves I used. Only downside is the shipping time.

Just want to say it’s been an awesome build thread to follow and admittedly persuaded me to order one as well, and have given me a bunch of ideas for mine which I will be stealing . Keep the updates coming!

Just read through this whole thread. Great write ups.

And your outbreak reminded me to go ahead and qt the two fish I just picked up. I love my tangs, but ...

Thanks! I’ll post more updates once all the fish go back in.

Thanks! I’ll definitely be a QT believer moving forward. Just glad I got on it sooner then later

Love the build, you have given me a few things to think about with mine :D

Keep the updates coming!

Made some progress this week building the canopy for the light. Still need to hit some areas with body filler and prime it. Then I need to find a match for the color/finish of the Red Sea cabinet.

Thanks for starting this build thread. Your tank looks great! I am planning on doing something similar with the lighting (will be getting a Reefer-S 1000 too soon).
I have searched the thread but can't find this — mind telling me what material you used for the canopy? Thanks in advance!

It was made out of MDF. And then sealed and painted

I’ve got the canopy almost completely finished. Just need to add the hardware for the hanging kit. I’ll need to reinforce the ceiling where it’s going to be mounted as well. The color I went with was Sherwin Williams Frost Flower. It matched the Red Sea cabinet really well at my LFS.

In case someone is looking for "Frost Flower", I went down to the local Sherwin Williams paint store and asked for a quart of "Frost Flower". They said they don't have that color in their SW color database. They looked it up and found out it is a Lowes 'special' Sherwin Williams color, but they could make it for me. So I was able to get a Qt of semi-gloss so I can paint my light canopy to hopefully match the S-850 tank/stand I am buying.

Awesome, thanks for sharing. I happened to get it at Lowe’s so I didn’t even realize it was exclusive to them.
I recommend using a spray gun to get the smoothest finish.

Added a Neptune Systems Cor-15 pump today. This will be what’s used to provide flow through my UV sterilizer and a manifold in the future. The plumbing will be run soon through the wall and into a small closet that’s behind the tank

a few weeks ago I managed to temporarily instal my 2 dosing pumps from my old 75g. The plan is to eventually install Neptune Dos pumps in my fish closet where all the tubing is run but in the meantime this will keep everything steady

UV installed. 3 remaining fish added back to the tank, and another 2 into QT. The UV is located in a closet behind the tank. It pulls from the skimmer chamber and feeds into the return chamber to avoid filtering the same water. The power supply is mounted to the ceiling of my electronics cabinet. I’m looking forward to replacing the dosing pumps with a Neptune Dos located in my fish closet. This would allow me to get rid of the 2 jugs and pumps from inside that cabinet.

New additions to the display. Looking to try to find 6 banggai cardinalfish to add to the QT system next. I’ll take some updated coral photos this afternoon, but theres been a few new pieces added and coraline algae has really started to take hold.

Man oh man what a beautiful tank. How are the BRS supplements working for you? I have just switched over to save some cost on the Redsea ones :)
