Hey friends,

I wanted to hear some of your favorite dipping cocktails. I have Coral Rx, Brightwell Lugols, and H2O2 that I can think of on hand.

UPDATE (9/19/16)
To make this extra fun I just put a coral order in. I'm snagging a bottle of Bayer tomorrow after work.

Thanks!

The work
So this thread is changing. I'm asking members to share their specific recipes. So I can build a user chart. Here is a link to a chart I'm building to help reefers when it comes to dipping.

Please include...
1. Ingredients
2. Measurements
3. Time for dip and wash
4. Any important details of your overall process
5. Include dips for inverts (if any) and fish
6. Protective Equiptment
7. Proper Disposal

The List
1. Bayer is the recommended method in dipping corals to rid of pests. So in my chart I will specify this dip as a pest dip and include how it's to be used as well as handled and disposed.

2. Iodine tincture, Iodine pharmacy grade (10%?), Kents Lugols, BA Lugols - pests, necrosis/infection

3. H2O2 - pests, algae, necrosis/infection

4. Salinity - pests

5. Fresh water - pests

6. Muriatic Acid - including for treating plugs, and rock. Kills everything.

7. Coral Rx - pests, necrosis/infection

Bayer Advanced. I put a cap full in about 10 ounces of water and soak frags for 5 - 10 minutes. Nukes everything bad. Then be sure to rinse frags a couple times with tank water

I'm a Bayer dipper and use 1 ml Bayer to 100 mls tank water. Coral sits in this for 15-20 minutes and then two rinse dips in tank water to remove any Bayer.

FYI, the frag plug is always removed before dipping (unless it's plastic).

Why do u say that about the frag plugs?
I have an idea but I want to hear ur thoughts on it as I do or try to do the same thing

Bayer, 10ml:4oz tank water. Remove plugs because things can be hidden and service within even after dipping

I understand but how come u keep the plastic frags and not the other ones?

I haven't purposely removed a frag from a plug, for dipping reasons. I've always dipped with the plugs. I do agree with Paul about plugs being absorbent. I think this is most important when dipping with Bayer, which he does use. I personally have used coral rx, iodine, and H2O2 for dips. Iodine and H2O2 are fine in small quantities. You wouldn't need to worry if that's what your using. I'm not sure about Coral Rx, but I can say I dip the entire plug in RX/tank water mixture for 7 minutes then in a 2nd bowl of regular tank water I allow 10-20 minutes for the coral and plug to leech out.

Focus here, post your coral dip cocktails.

My plan is to crunch supplied data and formulate a useful chart to be shared by all.

@stevo01 , you might be interested in THIS POST where I attempted to summarize dosages of Bayer folks are using. On page 2, post number 25, you'll find a summary and editorial on the use of Bayer.

I also use Bayer but dont really have a recipe. I just squirt a bunch into a cup of water till its milky looking and let them sit for 5 minutes while blowing them off. Never lost any SPS.

nice

Awesome work sir! I'll include this in the Bayer section of my chart. I read one comment about using RODI water for 5 seconds. That was interesting. I did read all the comments.
