reef-pi :: An opensource reef tank controller based on Raspberry Pi.

Hi, Could anyone help with an installation problem please? I have been trying to get Reef pi installed for 2 days with no luck. I have followed the guides & videos but all to no avail....

I am running a Pi 3 B V2, I have tried clean installs via ssh with both the 0 release and the 3.

I can boot into the GUI

I can SSH into the Pi

I can VNC into the Pi


When I try to load Reef Pi via 192.168.1.65:80 I get the following:

This site can’t be reached

192.168.1.65 refused to connect.


sudo systemctl status reef-pi.service returns

So, I ordered and sourced a bunch of parts to start building this weekend. Unfortunately my raspberry was hijacked by a 13 year old!! There is a good chance I am going to have to buy another one lol. But I got the box I am going to use, the perma proto hat, buck converters, jumpers, wire, headers, I found a 12 volt 3 amp power supply and barrel connectors in my basement, and I have some heatsinks and fans that I may play around with. Since I already have a working controller deployed this is a side project to build over time. I was thinking though... I read some article of users complaining that the raspberry locks up often. Those that have been running it for awhile do you do scheduled reboots? Any issues with crashes, locking up, or erroneous behavior?

Nice. Mine is a repurposed retropie as well.
 
I've been reading a long a bit, notice quite a few instances of not getting to the reef-pi page, could a shortcut be placed on the desktop when installing reef-pi?
we could, but that would assume that all reef-pi installation have GUI/desktop enabled. If you are accessing reef-pi from the same host (i.e from the browser running on the same Pi), just type: http://localhost on your browser,

I dont understand the significance of that Chaeoto image, I am assuming thats just accidental. Regarding your trouble, can you try again posting the log output. Also, share some details around your reef-pi setup, particularly how you are accessing it?

You know you can always have couple of extra sd cards, and swap them when your kid is not playing with it and use for testing/building.
The LM2596 buck converter modules that i recomend is rated for 3A. Most of the perf board (including perma proto i think) are rated for 4A, something to remember.
I have never experienced Raspberry Pi locked up, unless by lock up you mean wifi connectivity lost. I did experience some network connectivity lost, and the way I fixed it, is by dropping a systemd timer unit that will restart networking service every day at midnight, so even if my wifi router acts up and Pi lost internet connectivity, its reinstated every midnight, without any impact to reef-pi
 
A quick question. And please excuse me if this isn't the best place to post it given that this thread is supposed to be for the development of Reef-Pi.

How do people set up automated water changes using Reef-Pi. That's my next project I'd like to set up. I've got a few ideas, but they become quite complicated quite quickly. I'm wondering if there is a simple method I'm overlooking
I have actually not tested reef-pi for a full automatic water change, we are releasing the macro feature to assist with these kinds of workflow. I am planning to use the doser module for continuous water change in one of my pico, while for the nano i want to use one of more macros for semi automatic water changes (i.e. they'll be triggered manually, but once triggered they'll invoke a sequence of actions). This is something I expect to evolve over time, as reef-pi matures,
 
The dfrobot board is just two resistors? is it essentially this

Do you need to current limit the signal out wire?

I got some new parts in this week. This is the start for my jebao pump controls.

Is it just on/off functionality, or can we use this to randomize flow and the such? This is incredibly interesting to me. I'm not certain my 40b sump can handle the flow I'd need to avoid using wave makers, and last i checked the reef-pi could only power them on/off via the power controller. Exciting stuff.

As of right now there is nothing written for programming yet. However I am anxious to get the parts and pieces ready to go for when it gets to testing.
 
All temp probes use same circuit. They are self identifying. Here are my three connected together.

This did not work for me if any of the 3 probes where on a wire longer then 10 feet. They would randomly drop off and reef- pi would lose them. If less then 10 feet for each of them you are probably fine thou... One of my Probes is 25 feet away ...
