Hi y'all,

After seeing Dave3112's Reef Radiance LED fixture (many thanks to Dave for showing your light to me) and reading TrishW's comments on her purchase, I decided to buy their DM-132e LED unit for my 29 gallon.

After a few email exchanges with Rick at Reef Radiance regarding my purchase, he offered a great group-buy opportunity for our club :)

There is no minimum buy requirement. They ship directly to each member – and most importantly – they have pretty amazing pricing on their LED equipment. I understand that these prices are just for our club buys for 5 day period starting today.

A quick calculation on my system (considering MH lamp replacement and energy use), I realized that an LED fixture at that price pays for itself within three years!

I just received my DM-132e and cannot be any happier with the light!! It seems to be very well built. The light spectrum are great!! All my corals look great under it. I even put it up over my 180 and I really like it. I need to replace all my MH lamps now :) It was truly a great buy!!
 
Any recommendations for a 55 gallon aquarium that will contain softies and some LPS? I've really struggled to figure out appropriate LED lighting for my tank.

Your tank probably don't need as much light as SPS dominated tanks. However, most LED fixtures are dimmable. If you decide to add SPS corals later, you can simply turn up the intensity. I recommend that you get led fixtures with some red, yellow, green, and violet/UV LEDs in addition to standard whites and blues.

Thanks for the kind words. Hi ProudSoonersFan - I am assuming you have the same tank I have - the standard 55 that is 48 inches long and 12 inches front to back? If so - your choices - believe it or not are fairly simple. If you want a budget light - that is dimmable and full spectrum - you can go with either the DM-132e like Tomoko - or the DM-155e -you would need 2 of these. Take a look at our site for details at Reef Radiance - Home. The unique design of these lights allows for simulating the sunrise/sunset of a coral reef, and are very inexpensive. If you want programmable, I would suggest one of our LUMENTEK PRO series. These allow for changing the intensity of your light in 10 minutes increments over the day from the sunrise to sunset and then to moonlights - all programmable by you. These are more expensive and details and costs are also on our site. How did your pinks look? I don't have any pink corals but my oranges and purples look amazing.

My pink corals look nice and pink. As I change the ratio of blues to white, they can change from candy pink to lavender pink. I just don't have the light blue wash of 14k Phoenix bulb. I would like to look at your light. Would you like to come by sometime soon, too? We can do a mini meet with a few people who are interested in these lights or reef aquarium in general...

Sure, I would love to see your new light, your 180G and I want to check out your dart frogs as well. I love to talk about tank so I am always ready for a meet, mini or otherwise. :)

I like a bluer tank as well. I just set mine to manual and 100% blue and 50% white/full spectrum and it still looks pretty white to me.
