Tomoko - how is your light acclimation going? I have increased my whites by 5% and things still seem to be okay. When I emailed Rick I got the impression that I could acclimate much faster than I had originally planned. I still have the brightest portion of the cycle at only five hours.
I am ashamed to say that I am bit more willy nilly about the light acclimation. I jerked it up to show the light to Reilly and Ali (our younger daugher) at odd times and forget where the original setting was. I am watching my livestock, though. So far everybody seems to be happy except for my Onyx clown. They gives me a dirty look now when I approach the tank. Well, that serves them right for biting me hard .
Being conservative is fine as every tank is different and it is impossible to start with a given lighting schedule for everyone - even though I get asked this every day...(-: -. Trish the program you sent me is good - just don't under-light coral that is used to a certain PAR. In other words - most hobbyists are very concerned about OVER lighting with one of our lights - and I always caution prudence - but - you can under-light as well and not provide the Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR) that the zooxanthella need to nutritionally support your coral. Just be sure to watch your coral for distress - and give yourself some time and the acclimation will be fine. I have been trying to create a program that packages a Seneye PAR meter with each light we sell so hobbyists can take PAR readings throughout their tank prior to turning on the lights - using the included software to record the values for future reference. This is truly the best way to acclimate coral to new light - just set your new light(s) as just below the PAR value you had with old lighting and slowly increase it until the coral look the very best. Easy peasy. Tomoko - I have 3 Cinnamon clowns that do the same thing every time I put my hand in the tank they live in............arrggh....hope this helps Rick
It was so hard to even get my hand in most of my tank with my old lights that I never checked the PAR under the old lights. I remembered after we had the old lights out of the canopy.
Okay - then go by the perceived light in the tank - I know this is somewhat crude as your old lights and your new ones had a different spectrum ratio - but this still can be used as an indicator and watch your coral as you ramp it up. You are a smart lady - you will know when you hit your stride and remember - it might not be at 100% of the light as they are very strong.... Rick
Well besides the warranty side of things they look like they come from the same warehouse they just have a different name on them. I was just wondering they RR does something to them after they get them to make them different.
The short answer is no - we dont sell our lights on eBay and to the best of my knowledge we have only one of our lights being sold by someone else on ebay. (and this one light is being sold for almost double of what we are selling it for and does not have our unique led and spectral program. So the answer is NO - our lights are not being sold on eBay and the lights you see on eBay are from different factories (there are over 100 factories selling LED lighting in China ) than ours. We have a few hand-picked and vetted factories we use - having developed them over the last 5 years. There are lot of lights on eBay - some good - many not so good. I am not going to get into our warranty and customer service - read the forums. LOL - I lied - the vendor you looked at on eBay sells this light and so do we. The difference is - he made up a name for it and we call it by what it is - the Evergrow IT2040. That is what he is selling. We have it on our site right now for $289 including freight. He has it for $270 for a starting bid. I researched his pricing and I found that he has the Evergrow IT2060 for sale for $399 - we sell the exact same light for $329. So I imagine it is a safe bet that his price on the light you want will be maybe $50 - $80 higher than what we sell it for. Once again he - and we - are selling the same light - the Evergrow IT2040. And once again I am calling it by its real name and he has changed it so he can sell it for more. That is why I don't sell on eBay - all the guessing and games and having to bid and not sure what you are getting and what you have to eventually pay. I am a power seller with a 100% perfect rating - but would rather just list it on our site for what it is and sell it for as low as I can. And I might make it even a little more complicated and ask you to look at the LUMENTEK PRO series 120 before you buy. It is our dedicated product and I think a much better light with a newer and better controller - read the reviews on the forums to get an idea of what I am talking about. I looked at the one on ebay and he has added warm white leds, which I have read many times are a contributing factor to nuisance algae. And the $270 that the fixture is at has not met the reserve yet. I also noticed that there is NOTHING mentioned about a warranty.
Reefbreeders sells the same light for more as well.
