Well that counts me out. I'd definitely have to send mine in if I wanted that upgrade.
 
I need a little information. First I am upgrading my current reef set up very soon to Reef Radiance Lumentek 240's, wp40's, and an apex controller. Now I'm definitely going to upgrade my lights to apex controllable, but my confusion is with regards to the apex. What exactly do I need from an apex standpoint to get the most out of my new lights? Right now I am planning to buy

With the lumentek an apex is not needed. It's entirely controllable on its own. If one wanted to keep all control under one device, then I could see how it would be attractive, but in my application I find it to be unnecessary and redundant.
 
Who here is keeping clams successfully under their Reef Radiance LED's ? If you are keeping healthy clams. what are your light settings and what placement in the tank is the clam.

I agree, but for me control from my computer is essential. I have a disability that won't allow me to be "hands on" with my reef. I'm forced to automate or control from my computer as much as I can. Up to this point I've written all my own control software using an arduino (being software engineer comes in handy sometimes), but I don't feel like writing a web interface or app to make it even better. The Apex will just do everything out of the box. So do I need the VDM module?

understood - this is very different from the our dimmable leds - in time and complexity.

We will have great instructions to make it as easy as possible.

But it will take a hands on gal or guy to do it.

you are right - it is entirely controllable on its own.

Using the apex allows you to control it via the internet and allows for storms and lightning displays.

If these do not appeal to - you are then good to go without it.

I'm sure they're are those that'll be all over it, for me it just isn't needed. And what are forums for if not unsolicited opinions ha!

Storm effects are cool if you don't have any fish. If you literally want to see fish get so freaked out that they practically commit suicide, run some lightning effects on a tank with a decent amount of fish in them. It is, without a doubt, a fantastic, fun feature, but there's no way is subject any fish to that lol!

Sign me up to be the test rat. I've got the soldering gun and shrink tube all lined up and ready. I'll let you know how good the directions are. Lol or I'll write you new ones with what not to do.
 
lol - we are working right now on making the LUMENTEK Apex uprade easier to do - will advise if we need rats..............................(-:
