The blueface angel has been my favorite angel since I first saw a picture of one in a book from Shedd aquarium. This must have been in 1990 and I thought they were probably unobtainable. It was very exciting for me to finally get the first one about 17 years ago. I have since had a couple and currently have had one for about 5 years. Got it as a very small juvenile and it is a beautiful adult now. These are among the smaller of the "large angels" which is nice as it can stay in my 300 indefinitely. No plans to ever get rid of him... I'd rather remove corals if necessary!

Emperor!

I can't believe you'd do the genicanthus gang dirty like this.

Not a single choice available from the genicanthus family? Really?

Love my Spotbreast and my Lamark's Angels. Ok, yeah, they don't have the bright colors, but they're still beautiful to me.

I like them all but only keep dwarf/pygmy angels. Yeah, peppermint, interruptus and venustus may be favorites but not likely to buy anytime soon. As a rule, I always keep at least flame, flameback, multicolor, potters. After my last coral beauty holy terror they have received a lifetime ban lol. Of course, my potters died a few years ago and has been pretty much irreplaceable thanks to our good friends in Hawaii. In addition, I now have a bicolor and orange peel. All beautiful fish, even the orange peel that ate a wellso :angry-face: Only ever had a golden once which didn't work out too well. Just too delicate and meek for an angel. If I remember right my CB brutalized and killed it.

Clarion Angels are my favorite.

But since I'll likely never get one, amongst the 8 large and 2 dwarfs that I actually do have, it's a tie between the Maculosus, the Queen, and the Majestic.

Since the poll omited Magestic I'm going say Eibli ;)

I don't have a pic handy,

No love for Genicanthus personatus? Reef safe and beautiful. Of course they do cost a fortune. LOL

Many consider them a bit drab and overpriced, but there’s something really special about Conspic angels. They move with wonderful elegance through the water and almost look like a hand drawn, cell shaded cartoon.

Honorable mentions for me would be, Genicanthus Semifasciatus males and Multi-barred angels:

If you can’t tell, I like my angels fairly monochromatic and yellow. lol.

(1) Gold Flake

(2) Blue Line and the “Maze” hybrids (the ones with more Blue Line DNA)

(3) Majestic

(4) Asfur

(5) Regal

(6) Emperor

(7) Bandit

Dwarfs:
(1) Flame

(2) Multi-Bar / Purple Mask

(3) Brazilian Fireball

(4) Coral Beauty

(5) Japanese Dwarf (Interruptus)

(6) Potter’s

(7) Lemonpeel

I like Genicanthus too.

Do any of you keep the angles with a heavily stocked reef tank? Are any of them reef safe?

I’ve read that you have to keep them fed. How often do you feed them?

Probably the Blueline I had a while back. Dumb purchase...bad rep for poor collection practices. He seemed fine for a bit, then he just died :-(

Peppermint and Bandit are for sure my favorites, though both are currently unobtainable and looks like they won't be for a long time (not like I could afford one anyways lol)

Venusuts have to be my favorite in terms of the angels I can get. A deepwater angel with some awesome purple markings, the second Biota gets more Captive Bred ones from BaliAquarich, it's going straight into my cart!

Bonus pics of the Peppermint and Bandit from the Steinhart Aquarium's 'Twightlight Zone' gallery (California Academy of Sciences) in San Francisco from April. Their Peppermint is currently the only one on display in the US, possibly the World since the one at Waikiki passed away quite a while ago.

I chose Peppermint angelfish on this list, I think dwarf angelfish are more appreciated than large angelfish for the most part by a large number of hobbyists IMO, they are all appreciated so much that it's hard to pick a favorite unless your options are limited, here my vote is for Peppermint, but my favorite is always the unobtainable Resplendent angel, and after that the list is countless for so many species of angelfish that seem to be incredibly hand painted, it all depends on the taste of the aquarist, but there is not just one that is not an incredible fish.
