Cool idea and great deal but I don’t want to do a harem. Would prefer to add another wrasse than get 3 angels.

How about a Regal. Now that is an Angel. We don't cal them Regal Angels for nothing.

Wow that’s a beautiful fish!!
Are they very peaceful and reef safe?

I'm considering a flame in our tank. If they are going to nip, what do they usually go for?

Fleshy stuff especially acans, trachys, scolymia etc... Safest corals for them are various SPS and they are usually not too bad with various inverts.

Even when well fed their dietary preferences can change overnight in a few years time. Have had this happen more than once.

Last instance was an angelic multibar I had for about 20 months that ate a variety of DIY frozen foods throughout the day. One day he started going nuts on pellets, simultaneously stopped eating frozen and discovered a large micromussa ledge.

From then on it was pellets throughout the day and LPS in between. In fairness this was a dominant male that was also trying to best another male pygmy at the time. There were probably plenty of hormonal changes happening when he began his rampage. Point is fish behaviour isn’t static. It changes and evolves over time.

I have a Harem of 4 Flame Angels, and a pair of young Regal angel in my tank. All of these angels started tiny in my tank. The Rega were about 1.5 inches and the Flame were about 1 inch. Now after about 2 years, I have a Flame harem and a pair of young Regal, just start to loose the juvenile spots.
I have Musroom, LPS, SPS, Clams and anemones Also have a Colt coral. None of these are bother by my fishes. Xenia maybe will be eaten by?

So am I understand right that a Regal angel will be as peaceful and reef safe as a Bellus angel? If that's the case the Regal wins hands down for me with its striking looks.

Mine does not bother SPS, colt corals, frogspawn, clams and fungi or mushroom. I had three from 2013-2017. Then my tank crashed now two since 3/2018. No problem.

No one likes Coral Beauty? Have only had mine a month or so, so can't vouch for the species. I thought they were considered a gamble, like all dwarf angels, but were generally at least a good a bet as a flame?

Anyhow, it's very pretty.

Coral beauty is a nice fish but I understand they are a big roll of the dice on how reef safe they are. I also think the regal is a much cooler looking fish (my opinion) so if I was going to take a risk it would be with a regal.

I picked up a Captive bred Biota Coral beauty. He is good with all my corals but one of the biggest jerks towards any other fish. No matter their size. My regal is still my favorite.

Here is what I have experienced in my 100 gallon, 40 breeder, and current 210 :)

1. Flame angle - my favorite. Color just stands out. I had one (didn't know at the time you could keep more (this was back in 2000)) and it would try any and all Zoa's and some LPS. Frogspawn, Hammer. It left my Elegance alone.

2. Coral Beauty - 2nd favorite when you find one with good color. Was in my 40 breeder and would nip at LPS mostly (Hammers and Torches). I moved him to the 210 upgrade and he is leaving the LPS alone but devours any and all Zoa's. I've tried several different colors and placement but it doesn't matter. He or she starts in, then the tangs come over to check it out, pick algae off the plug, and then the Beauty comes back and eats them once they are closed up enough. Damnedest thing...

I've not owned any others and the rest of my corals are fine. Mostly just the Zoa's at the moment. I do see some nip and tucks here and there but nothing compared to the skittle treatment of the Zoas. I have a regal and harem of flames on my stock list but waiting for another 6 to 12 months for some corals to mature. Then I'll be adding them if all goes as planned. That or a trio of Miletseed Butterfly's.

Wish i would have caught that sale.

My flame angel is a big time coral nipper (mostly softies). I keep the fish really well fed too.

That’s crazy- I have one in each of my 3 tanks and super tankmate

I have a coral beauty in one of my tank at the moment. He doesn't touch corals. He swims in and out of rock work all day, picks at rocks and eats reef frenzy well...

I have had my share of angels in reefs. Have tried them, all.... Heck I even tried an Emperor lol. Fact of the matter is, any fish can pick or eat your corals. I had a Blue Hippo tang years ago the would pick at LPS.... Fleshy polys, open brains Ect.
Just know some fish are more likely to pick than others and be prepared to get them or the corals out if you have issues.

i agree with DarthSimon. Any fish can bother corals, some species more so than other. Keeping with SPS, LPS and clams my Regal, Flame and Watanabei rarely cause any problem. If you feed them well and though out the day, I feed them 6 times a day, you really lessen their tendency to pick. I have not done a study to proof this but I don’t have problem with mine with this methods. My fishes are healthy, that is if you call overweight fish are healthy.

I have gotten so much stricter with adding "cation" fish in the last 2 years.... Got sick of relocating live stock.

Heck even my foxface picks at certain dunkins.
I removed the Dunkins ...

Just be careful and know risks going in....

my experience was not that great, we liked coral beauty, foxface and flame angel.

first i had coral beauty, and noticed coral polyp disappearing, returned to lfs
then got foxface (about 3") and oh man, it was ripping polyps like its meat, retuned.
now i got flame angel, still observing and suspecting that its nipping polyp.

Have a pair of bellus angels in my 180 no problems with them nipping at any corals and I have three very large clams in the tank as well.
