Reef Squad

This was a great answer filled with good information. I'd nominate you to the RS, @JoshH if I could. :)

For myself, I don't think I'm fit for the duty. I am too harsh with my answers and too often wrong with my understandings of the intricacies of reef keeping, not to mention I often forget what the original question was which technically makes me off topic.
I also like to ramble, and my mind functions in poetry better than prose. Most people can't follow my meandering posts.

Those who can seem to enjoy the irony, but it does get old, like me.

They know better than to add me to the RS ;Hilarious;Hilarious;Hilarious;Hilarious

Especially now I'm being watched;Shifty

But thank you for the compliment:)

But in all honesty, this is a forum and provides us with a place to chat. Even if we give answers that are off-point. With that said, @KrisReef it's better to have you here than not. Had some good interactions with you. Happy reefing buddy!

Thank you @ScottR
I do try to contribute in a positive way. I've learnt allot on here myself, and still keep learnting. :)

You keep “learnting”? You need to learn how to spell. Just joking hahahaha :p

The reef squad exists for a reason. Nobody in this hobby knows everything, best examples are posts by some of the most knowledgeable members who will always qualify their responses.

I’ve seen lots of sick fish in my professional and personal lives, still often times it’s very difficult to diagnose when just looking at a few pictures. That’s why we ask lots of questions and other members jump in and ask more questions.

I almost never respond to posts asking for a microscopic ID because I’ve learned (the hard way) that there is way too much margin of error .... other people on the squad or the forum may be much more experienced with this. If someone is way off the odds are they will be corrected.

Often times many squad members will use the reefsquad # to get more members to take a look. I think that’s what makes this approach work...

Coming in with the know-it all or better then everyone approach just doesn’t work in science or this hobby. There’s politics for folks who enjoy that ;)

Two can play at that game BTW! ;Watching;Watching;Watching;Watching

Members of the Reef Squad give their time for free and try and help other people were ever we can with their fish tanks, make them welcome etc etc.

It’s a ‘reefers’ forum, the best on the web by far in my opinion, and I for one am not interested in forum politics and have absolutely no problem with any members of staff, mods. I come on here to relax, and to help others run successful reefs if I can. I don’t know everything, but I help when I can.

At the end of the day, if anyone doesn’t like the site, staff, Reef Squad, whatever, they are free to go elsewhere, let’s try and keep this a nice place to hang out, that’s what the majority are here for.

At the risk of public ridicule - this is the problem - not the solution. And I have numerous times called on the reef squad with the tag to help another person. Read your words - are they friendly? Do they make it a 'nice place to hang out'? EVERYONE is here for that. Your words suggest otherwise. note - not wanting a debate here - but just read and think on what you are saying. Maybe I'm wrong - but to me this translates to 'agree to what I say - and then all is good - otherwise go away'. If I'm misinterpreting - feel free to answer.

Ask a question about running your fish tank, or problems you may have with it, and I will be more than happy to help you out if I can.

Thanks. If that was your point - im not sure why you answered this thread. But - I appreciate the offer.

+1.
I’m a little shocked with the attitude displayed in The last parSPR1968 post. Kind of reminds me of that other forum and their moderators attitude.
Is this proper Reef Squad etiquette with posts like that, attitude and running off members who are the ones that make Reef2Reef work?
Back to the original OP question.

I've been in the hobby a couple of decades. I've been on many forums. I even run a forum. I really enjoy this forum. I have no idea who all the reef squad members are nor do I care to look it up. This is a big forum my guess is there are just as many knowledge non reef squad members as there are members. This is what makes this place great. People shouldn't make acquiring titles a goal as it will typically lead to disappointment. The polite educated active member here is just as good as a squad member right? You might not like your boss but that doesn't necessarily mean he's not good at his job.

I think that this is a very argumentative way to look at was said. Reef Squad are volunteers that try to be helpful in whatever ways they can, but quite frankly there have been a number of members that appear to be consistently critical of how things are done. Are there ways to improve? Absolutely. But perfect is the enemy of good. But that doesn't stop those critical members from continuing to "push" their perspective, but when Reef Squad or staff respond their words are parsed for criticism.

I agree that it could be seen as me disagreeing with the tone of the post. I dont consider it being 'very agrumentative'. In fact - in my post (that you didn't quote) - I said:

You are also correct that there are users who complain. Some of those complaints are 'constructive' - some are not. With all due respect (and I do respect you) - and There are also Reef Squad members who feel (or who have felt) that the tone of the site was changing. That is the point of this discussion. Lastly - If my post was 'very argumentative' - yours above is 'overly defensive'. Why? I didnt report the post - or the person.

EDIT - let me soften this some - to 'yours above SEEMS 'overly defensive'...
