In this episode, we go to Davie, Florida to visit the home of Mark Esquenazi of ME Coral where he breaks down the complexity of it and discusses about one of the most hottest and controversial topic in the market today. Amino Acids. Sit back, relax, watch the video, learn few things and let's discuss about it!

Enjoy!

Great info!

Great video! I have always believed in amino acids addition. I personally use Red Sea reef energy A & B. I have always gotten better growth and colors with this product.

Hello
Let me try to answer some of the questions. First I do believe its best to dose just before light out. Most corals feed more at night; however as reefers we want to see our corals eat(human pleasure). So I suggest adding aminos 15-20 minutes before you feed your fish in the evening. Two reasons. First the aminos (some) produce a feeding response in 15 min, so while they are feeding why not give them the same food you give your fish also. Food that may only be available for a few minutes before the fish get most of it. Second the aminos will then still be in the water column in the evening to feed those that did not want to feed in the daytime.
The other question related to brand. I think whats important here is that we read the labels. Aspartic and glutumic acid are the most important to corals. Some amino products are actually all in one products with vitamins, trace metals, carbohydrates etc. Anything that makes the bottle seem more valuable? Some of these other things can add phosphates, which can produce cyano and other unwanted stuff. So look for a pure product that is willing to disclose ingredients. Hope this helps

I'm sure he would recommend MEcorals amino acid, if they have it..... ;) I have been using TLF's acro power and I know a few really nice tanks that are supplemented with Aquavitro Fuel.

Rob,
Both Fuel and acropower are used by many. Since you use both, can you share with us what you see as the differences? Do the labels imply they are similar? MECoral has been testing and using a new amino, but the key is education so we all understand what we are buying, what makes them different, and what kind of results the masses of users are experiencing. So please share your experience. Tanks in advance!

Best time to dose AA's ? Day or night?
Jimbo------This is controversial, but from what I have read most of our corals prefer eating at night. However they can be trained to eat in daylight if thats when the food is available. My suggestion is to feed an amino acid that produces polyp extension in 15 minutes. (What we have tested does). Feed aminos an hour before lights out then feed fish 20 minutes latter. This way the corals are feeding when the fish food was added. If not it could be all gone in 20 minutes if no aminos. This satisfies the human pleasure of seeing corals feed and leaves residual throughout the night for them to continue feeding.

I have been dosing Fuel for about a month now. Corals growing faster and more colorful. Only problem is I had a cyano outbreak. Anybody ever have this problem?

AcroPower looks really like water ... :) I though it will have at least a strong smell. Maybe I have a fake one? :D @Afishionado @Rob.D

I forgot how acropower smells like now lol. I will go buy one and let you know haha. If it doesn't contain any type vinegar, it shouldn't smell strong at all.

good job Mark and Richard.

Thank you sir!

Awesome to hear that fuel is working out for you!
Yes, any type of carbon dosing can cause cyano bacteria to form.

Good info guys and good video you guys make me want to try AA again I have some AP there may give it a try agin but I will say when I was using brightwells version I did see a lot of difference with no cyno with AP I did get cyno and that was with 10 drops a day on my 75g.
