Reefer 425 stocking suggestions

Half Bandeds can get much larger than 4”. I believe the Wrasse Lovers Thread has an older photo of one in there. That guy looked to be Atleast 6 inches (I believe the owner of the wrasse was @Crabby48 however I don’t think they are active on here anymore).
Also with the Anampses, I mixed up lennardi with neoguinaicus. I typed that in early in the morning so I hadn’t quite woken up yet. Yes, Anampses lennardi can potentially reach 2’ long however it’s much less likely to occur and often they max out at 1’.

The size on the half banded is the exception not the norm. Super males are generally around 4”. Just like any animal there are exceptions to their normal size and as you said, “they can get”. Plus you just made my point with the Lennardi wrasse. :)

It also doesn’t mean they all stay small.
I believe @SaltyT may be able to help with the max size of a Madagascan Half Banded.
A supermale may be a 4 inch fish however supermale is purely what we call a completely coloured up wrasse - there is no difference between a supermale and a terminal male.

I currently have a 90g with:
Powder Blue Tang
Hippo Tang
Naso Tang
2 clowns
yellow coris
starry blenny
yellow fang blenny
couple blue damsels
melanarus wrasse

Plan to add a flame angel eventually too.

They usually max out at 4” inches at the super male stage in their life. I woujd be happy to switch it to a Bells Or diamond tail flasher wrasse.
You do know adult lennardi wrasses can push 2’ right? Take a look on the reef builders website. So if a half banded won’t work then then this won’t either. However, for a portion of time both would work in his tank.

Hopefully we are allowed to post screenshots.

Hemi’s get big way bigger then 4”. They require a lot of room including a tall tank. Mine was little cramped in a 6’ 30” tall tank.

To my knowledge there is no official data on the max size of P. hemitaeniatus; however, those that have kept this flasher know first-hand that they get bigger than 4''.

Then there’s no way to say who’s right or wrong because the data set isn’t big enough. Not to mention how many people actually have this fish? My guess is not that many due to the location of collection. Add to that the divers go after the larger fish that will yield more money which in turn throws off the average.

Not sure what point you're trying to make? This thread is a discussion. I hope it's not anyone's intent to turn this into anything other than a discussion.

Yes, I agree that this is a discussion. I’ve already asked for this to move on because the OP isn’t going to buy this fish anyways.

How do you figure. Look up a couple post. I think having and seeing a bunch of hemisphere way bigger then 4” is proof!!

Also fish can be way more common you just need to know where to shop.

Also, if the divers go for the larger fish then shouldn’t that show you that the majority of them get MUCH larger than 4 inches?
As Crabby said, these are rather easy wrasses to get hold of if you know where to go.

No, since when did this become a fish that was imported in mass? I know suppliers that have been waiting for month upon months to get one. So you’re saying a bias by the divers dictates a normal size for the fish? The only thing you can surmise is that the fish collected so far are larger then 4”. We are not talking about max size we are talking about the norm.

Anyways let’s move on. I think we have hijacked this persons thread for long enough.

Since Covid it is harder to get them because no flights. Fish will be ready to go but then no flights. It’s a long trip and when they need to travel 50% farther that’s a problem. Before Covid it was a breeze. Shipments are still leaving Madagascar just not as frequent. Maybe your guy needs a different
Transshiper idk.

I understand no official data is on this fish however, what should be saying something is if the specimens in captivity are all around the same 6 inch size then that should be saying something about the size of the fish not being a max of 4 inches.

and yes, there are importers who can get this fish relatively easily compared to the other rare wrasses such as A. femininus, A. lennardi, M. choati, P. bellae ect…

I’d love to hunt down a P. bellae, and recently got a tank the right length for M. choati.
If only haha!

What are you talking about dude. All these have been available this year. Maybe get yourself a new supplier.
