Reefer Stand Structural Integrity - Pls Help!

Curious to hear your opinion on this - I was told a long time ago - that the only place a tank needed to be supported is on the ends -that the corners were the only place that 'needed' support. I used to have a 90 gallon tank set on cinder blocks - only on the ends. Never had a problem .

General rule of thumb is trimmed tanks only need support at 4 corners, while trimless flat bottom glass tanks need full bottom support, but even here there are exceptions based on varying manufacturer's designs.

Bro that's a high lift (grew up on a farm) we also use 20 ton bottle jacks a lot for splitting tractors.

How did this turn out? I have the same issue with my 2.5 year old 250. I honestly think it got worse over the last couple month and is at the point of considering bracing it somehow.

I ended up tracking down a new 450 stand and making the swap. Painful but glad I did. Now hoping the new one doesn’t give me issues!

IMO....... Tanks this big and heavy have no business on plywood stands............ I don't give a rats booty what type of treatment they do to it to protect it from moisture. I have a Red Sea Reefer 450 as well. I actually leave the doors open pretty much 24/7 so moisture does not congregate under the stand, I even have a fan that blows at the sump area. I'm very methodical about not spilling water anywhere inside the stand. I rely on my Apex leak detectors to notify me of any water. What I find humorous is their new line of giant tanks coming out that is 240+ gallons also use this same idiotic stand.

your question/problam is? I bought 2 of their tanks as well - I I were you I wouldn't be blowing fans and avoiding moisture - I would be buying a new stand if I care THIS much. You're just trying to make a case against Redsea - and believe me - this makes it seems like less of a real problem than I as an owner think is. Put your fans away close your doors - and get something else and quit whining..

BTW - HOW DO YOU KNWO IT WILL WORK - IF YOU DONT KNOW WHAT THE PROLEM IS. Yes we think it will be ok - did that help? How would anyone know? If you're uncomfortable - take your tank down - put the stuff in buckets and order a new one. Other than that - no Im not comfortable.

There is nothing quality about the red sea stands that are made of particle board. Nothing. The plywood stands on the larger models may be ok. They are held together with Ikea grade fasteners of pot metal.

These days I am leaning toward Waterbox but not because of poor quality Red Sea stands. My LFS and I have built a couple hundred Red Sea systems of every size without stand or tank failure even on wompy, antique floors.

Just problems with the cheap plastic plumbing every now and then. I'd suggest every RS owner keep a spare set of downpipes and O-rings. Especially if you have or are likely to move a tank.

I think it was constructive. I dont have any clue why anyone would think a fan would 'fix' a problem that you're implying exists - if you have more information - let everyone know. So - I said - If I were 'you' - I would take my tank down - and replace it with a different stand - this wasnt meant to be insulting - perhaps you misunderstood - it was meant as an honest suggestion - because if you have a problem - a 777 fan or the one you're using is not going to fix it.

I was talking about the larger stands. (the 2 that I have) that are marine grade plywood) - But - As to the smaller one's I'm curious as to your logic/reasoning. Thanks. Does waterbox for example use something different ? In the sense of 'taking one for the team' - I looked at their website - and couldn't get any information as to what they use for their stands. Additionally tried calling them - but they were closed. In any case - I don't see where there is an issue using Marine grade Plywood thats covered by a waterproof material - If there is an issue - Please let me know - as I will be wanting to change my equipment?
