So it essentially seems like a bunch of us, no matter what the profession, are just Coral and fish fans that have all found ourselves in the same forum and THAT is beautiful.

Lots of really smart people here !!
For my day job specialized heavy equipment mechanic. That includes hydraulic and electrical systems. Unbelievably fits well with the majority of gear we use in our reef tanks.

35 years as an auto mechanic, I hate it and I'm out in a few more. My abilities to problem solve help me with maintaining my reef tank. Interesting to see there are so many different professions here.
I consider my skills as an expert coral killer to be my second career path lol.

I’m a cardiologist as well specializing in advanced heart failure and transplant. Good to see cardiologists with some extra time for this hobby! Agree automation is so important for when we are not around. Also very pleased to see medical students here. I got in this hobby on my psych rotation in med school many years ago. Reefing has kept my sanity during all these years!

I am in telecommunications for a few rural telcos. Used to build/maintain communications towers, but now i am a full time desk jocky managing all the core servers/routers for 4g, 5g and the voice switch. Anytime i go into any more detail than that peoples's eyes glaze over.
Between the phone in your hand and the world wide web, signals will need to go through at least 10 different servers, not including routers, and all within about half a second in order for it all to work. Getting systems to play nice with eachother at work parallels the reef, getting different fish and other organisms playing well together to create a thriving tank.
I do also have to spend a lot of time reading technical documentation. Ever need help falling asleep at night? Read an IEEE RFC, or 3GPP TS spec. That makes reef reseach both fun and easy, especially in contrast.

USED to be a bread baker. Do kitchens and baths now. Reefing is a great stress reliever. Allows me to have a little bit of science in an otherwise hohum proffession.What’s up Reefers!
We can’t all be Marine Biologists or Oceanographers, our lives take us on different paths sometimes. I’m a Journeyman Millwright of 20 years, basically an industrial mechanic. My super power is the ability to look at mechanical things that fail or need servicing, and figure out how to do so.
This ability and training allows me to diagnose and rectify many mechanical issues with reef tanks. I am also conditioned to perform regular maintenance routines on my tanks as well.
So my question to you is, what is YOUR profession, and how does it help you with reefing?
