Reefmat 1200 drive / motor fails.

Here is what you need

Do yourself a favor and order 4-5, I did this about 2 months ago. RS is a joke to get new ones.

The motor on my 1200 just conked out after 15 months. After a bit of back and forth Red Sea sent me a new one. Works great now.

The motor is tiny and definitely underpowered. Probably cheap Chinese junk. Mine had a red/orange stain from overuse that the new one didn’t have.

My experience is they only last 6 months or so…I bought a bunch of motors off AliExpress for $15/ea. takes 5-10 min with a #1 Phillips screwdriver

I ordered 5 from above link and had no problems from this seller and yes they are the real deal. I mean Red Sea is Chinese junk and Ali is Chinese Junk .

Thanks for the link: I see the price isn’t really that much different than from Red Sea themselves. I was hoping to find the original or unbranded item on AliExpress — I’d bet this is an off the shelf component that they are marking up considerably.

Yeah, you only save 10-15% on Ali. The generic roll setup people talk of on here is legit though and half the price

I bought 3 motors from Ali Express for less than you can buy them in the UK including shipping. They took a while to arrive but they are RedSea branded and packaged as such (they are original RedSea components). I’ve also got a spare drive unit since when my motor failed they did not have motors to send out so I got sent a whole drive unit instead of just the motor.

I love this roller mat - admittedly it’s the only one I’ve ever owned but a roll lasts 2 months on our 6ft tank and it takes minutes to change out. Yes there are issues but once you understand and mitigate them I believe this is an excellent mechanical filtration solution.
