ReefMat fleece roll consumption

Mine does the same once it reaches 120' on the app - stops and won't go further. I have yet to have enough left @120' measured to worry about. Typically less than 6". Also, mine will say 2 days left and run for as many as 5-6 more days before reaching

Mine is doing that but definitely has feet left as the diameter of the roll left is probably at 2 inch or so.

In case anyone is wondering, red sea responded to my support ticket and said that each roll has 15 to 20 percent extra on it and that's why this can happen.

Since I have switched to a new roll 3 days ago, it has gone back to my normal usage of 24 to 28 inches per day. It seems it may have been something with the roll.

Just installed a reefmat 500 on a redsea 250. Brand new tank, been cycling with rock about 2 weeks. No fish, nothing, just rock and water and bottled bacteria. Up until today I had left the fleece out but decided today to install it just to get an idea of how it worked before I need it.

It is advancing VERY quickly. Almost every few minutes it's advancing a few centimeters when the water level rises. I finally turned off the auto advance option after I used several feet within 30 minutes. Is this typical?? I feel like something is wrong.

If the water level is rising, it is cathing the nasties. Let it go!

EDIT: I would also suggest using a hjigher advance value - that is up to you how much, but at least 1" per advance IMO is a good starting point.

I feel like at this rate I'm going to go thru the entire roll in one day

It is possible. When my tank was young and dirty - I went thorugh rolls in 2-3 days - for quite some time. Was a very expensive few months.

Has anyone had their motor make weird almost grinding noises when the mat advances? I've noticed mine doing this lately and I've even checked/adjusted the mat and all components and cleaned the motor, parts, etc. Cant get it to go away. It doesnt sound good. Still works fine but sounds like this:

Is the uptake (dirty) side of the fleece actuallly dirty? Your picture shows a pretty white looking uptake side, yet the water is overflowing out the side hole. If this is all true then perhaps the flow into the Reefmat is just too much and it is triggering the level sensor. Do you know how much flow you’re putting through the Reefmat? Perhaps it’s undersized for your flow rate.

In case anyone was wondering. Red Sea let me know that my motor was failing and is becoming a common problem in the units in general. They sent me this video and a new motor under warranty that they want me to swap out. I hope it's at least an upgraded motor since they are having issues. Figured I'd let someone know in case theirs starts to do this.

In my opinion this is one heck of an expensive endeavor if you feed decently or carbon dose (or both).

My system:
210, 40 gallon sump
I feed 3 times a day (2 cubes and 1 pinch of dry and a sheet of Nori)
Roughly 150ml per day vinegar

Reefmat 1200
Averaging 24 days per roll
Roughly 15 rolls per year at this rate = $480 annually when I was spending about $75 per year on socks. I am all about convenience and time = money but this is way lopsided with the current price of $32 per roll. Hopefully a 3rd party vendor comes out with cheaper rolls. I have yet to see someone with an "average" system get the 3 months out of a roll that has been claimed. I can see this being worth it if the rolls were half the cost but at $32 it doesn't seem worth it to me at this point.

I agree the rolls need to be cheaper. I've had some only last a couple weeks. That gets super expensive.

I am having the opposite experience everyone else is. I have had mine since the second week in December and I have only gone through 6.22 feet total. Its only doing about 0.7 inches a day. I don't have a skimmer and its a red sea 200 xl.

FWIW: I ditched the optical sensor and plugged the motor directly into a 24v port on my Apex with a 1link cable. I used a $10 buck converter off Amazon to adjust the voltage. I Set it to run every 2 days for a pre-determined amount of time to advance the roll. This worked well in removing organics and waste while ensuring nothing dumb happened and I lost an entire roll due to a stuck sensor or something. They tried to get cute with the optical sensor and it seems to be the Achilles heels of nearly all auto rollers.

How do you introduce your food to the tank? Do you broadcast feed? I personally feed frozen foods with a defroster from innovative marine. This slowly allows the food to fall through the holes, out into the tank where the fish can get it before going down the overflow. With this method I've been able to get the mats on both of my tanks to last significantly longer, all the while still providing the proper food for my fish. on my reefer 250, my current roll was installed on 12/10, going on 55 days with 50 ft used, and another 40 feet of the roll left. On my reefer 900 I started out with 21-25 days per roll for the first few rolls. Then I was able to elongate that, now im sitting at about 48-50 days per roll. That's about $233 a year based on BRS pricing. Yes, still more expensive then the filter socks, but you also have to understand we are paying for a premium as well. We are paying more money to just set it, and let it go, versus changing them out every 3-4 days. Hope this helps as I am a huge fan of this specific piece of equipment.

I’m having the same issue, I have a 170 reefer G2, adolescent tank with a few fish in it. Mine is advancing about .5 inches per day. The actual mat is very dirty but it does not look like it’s actually moved much.

having the 1200 mat; I use 1 roll every 30 days on a 150 g DT and 50 G sump. ( 4 inch steps )
I like to have a dayly fixed rate I can set. ( 10 inch or so )
that way it looks more like a filter sock you change on a dayly base

Hi guys! Can someone please share a link or reference to purchase aftermarket rolls for the RedSea 1200? I have a Waterbox 220 and keep eating rolls like crazy!
