Refrigerated frozen food

I left out a huge portion of LRS last month, found it at room temperature on the counter about 4 hours later. Talk about mad... that stuff is not cheap. I did enough reading to not trust it and threw it away. Now, I break off small chunks about 3 inches wide and keep it stored in a sandwhich baggy in the freezer. I feed off that batch until it's gone, then break off another piece, etc. This way, if the baggy is left out, I lose that small brick instead of the whole batch.

Can I share a story... I had a volitans that I thought I fed pretty well. He was about 3 when I took him out for hypo treatment in a hospital tank. His hospital tank was right next to my new pricey fish. I had researched diet all to pieces and was applying it to the new fish. The lion, being right next to the expensive fish got a brand new diet.

When I took him out, he was this size.....

When I put him back, he was too big for the tank. This is a three year old fish at this point. He had stopped growing...

There's many steps we fall down on, and it's really really hard to provide a perfect diet. All we can be expected to do is our best and no more.... we just have to make sure we are doing our best. If one can't afford to toss that or they can't get it easily, that is understandable. That means this month, the best you can do is provide food that's not "all that and a bag of chips".... but that's OK, if that's your best, you know what I mean? Have I knocked the ice off of a cube of mysis? Let it thaw just a little too long at room temp? Let air get at the open package. Yes. Yes. And yes. One time I fed out a questionable guppy and I swear the angler died the next day. He was perfect and established, so I'm not sure if it was me or not O.O As long as subpar doesn't become standard, everything will be fine.

that is some impressive growth, and he looks even more lovely in the after pics! I know some people wouldn't even bat and eye at feeding this food, I love my fish and have had my clowns for quite a while so I would rather play it safe, plus I can just buy more food at work so it's no biggie. If I had already rinsed and mixed and cubed all of this, I would be a little peeved though lol.

We had to upgrade him to a new tank! His change in color was probably a reflection of the coralline. That tank grew it like crazy. When we peeled back the macro, the whole thing became encrusted.

The kids did the same thing to my pe mysis. It stayed cold but was like a slush. I reused it no noticeable difference. I also have to travel an hour to get frozen food. With cooler packs it still a little soft when I get home.

Most fish don't hesitate to eat their own species after they die. Considering that, I would say the food is still good. Should be able to tell by smelling.

I have some how thawed my food my time with no bad effects for some reasone I will put back in to frig instead of freezer .

I don't know why I didn't think to put it in the fridge, that makes sense so it wouldn't get all weird when it refreezes. I ended up just getting all new food and threw the rest out for the raccoons. They must have appreciated it because they have left my garbage cans alone the past few days and only tried to get into 1 of my bird feeders lol.
