Renton's Evolution from 200 to 440 gallons

Haven't read through the thread..How are the file fish holding up? Are they eating prepared?

The male died after having him for about 3 years. He was an adult when I got him and he ate well and always looked healthy until the end. The current female was a juvenile when I got her and she eats prepared frozen and pellets. She continues to do very well, I think I have had her for 2.5 years. There is more info on what the eat back in the thread.

The frag tank is up and running! The frag tank is plumbed into the same system as the display tank.

I had a few leaky threaded adapters that I had to redo but most everything went smoothly. After making the changes everything held tight overnight.

I plan to hang the Orphek Atlantik tonight and move corals over.

Very glad to see this one moving along with that Atlantik v3. :)

Keep us posted!!!!

Awesome!

Amazing reef, Nathan! Let me know if you would be up for a brief visit while I am in town for the LEAR swap.

Thanks Tim! I will be at setup for the swap on Friday night and spending the night there. I don't think I will have any free time until after the swap. You are welcome to stop by then. If you are getting in early Friday, you can stop by before I head to the hotel.

I just upgraded to a new fat skimmer. Went from a Super Reef Octopus 3000INT (8" chamber) to a Aqua Maxx ConeS CO-6 (12" chamber) .

After adding the frag tank and adopting Frank the giant snowflake eel my nitrates were creeping up and I was maxed out with the SRO 3000.

Frank:

So, here is the new skimmer, initially I had my doubts that it would fit in the sump in the stand.

Aqua Maxx ConeS CO-6 compared to the SRO 3000 INT

A few features I really like about the Aqua Maxx ConeS CO-6:

1. The collection cup has a quick and easy slight turn-to-lock connection to the body

2. The skimmer can be completely taken apart. The bottom can be removed and the bubble plate and internal ring can be taken out for easy cleaning.

3. The skimmer body has 2 different pump input ports, to allow 2 different foot print configurations.

4. The pump connects to the skimmer with a soft flexible silicon tube. Very easy to connect and probably helps reduce vibration noise.

5. The skimmer is relatively quite. I found it pleasantly surprising considering its size.

And here is video of the Aqua Maxx ConeS CO-6 for all you equipment geeks:
