return pump broke this morning :(

It's funny how piling on is such a thing. Equipment failure happens.

My 4000 failed similarly a few days ago during a routine shutdown for a water change. Do I need to hate on Lifegard too and pile on? Do I need to say that the even-older pump that the 4000 replaced is the pump that's now pulling backup duty is a Quiet One too? No....because it doesn't really help the OP. ;)

Don't hate just dislike.
I strongly dislike Lol
I'm only explaining how many problems I've had since using them.
Failures happen, I understand. But I have replaced 5 power cords and 2 pumps so far. At what point does it because a company problem and not a "random equipment failure".
(Rhetorical question)

I'm new to the reefing hobby , but based on my work experience (oil and gas industry) it's always good to have a stand by [emoji844]I run two L1's turned down on my 320G, I know one could do it but redundancy is very important [emoji844]

Agree with having a backup! Even if it's a cheaper pump just for emergencies.
