Risky much? But it’s worth it!

I'm out....
I think that might be midget abuse

I had 4 different ones in my 120, green, yellow, black, and a red/rusty/orange one. Mostly lps and softies no issues with corals other than them sitting on them from time to time. Dont know if id brave sps with them though, I know they lay their eggs on the bases of acro after stripping the base of flesh. They however got along well together.
AwhhhhLknow I didn’t realize their nesting behavior included Gobified RTN on an sps colony base. I’m not going to be keeping any pair of these cute destroyers of sps in my house. Thanks for the tip.

It would be great if the reef keeper could chose the sacrificial colony but experience tells me that my favorite colony would be there’s also.

OP Probably should have left them in the bucket and not unleashed the fury upon his tank. Hopefully they surprise him pleasantly, but I will be watching this thread for updates.

So far no SPS destroying, instead they’ve been hanging out around my SPS. I said I didn’t really care about my SPS but they better not kill my Carduus.

I’ve had my Black in this tank since it was setup and ironically a blenny was more destructive than he was.

Well, I saw these Gobiodon okinawae at my LFS and thought ‘they’re just too cute’ so hopefully this doesn’t go to hell with my current Black Clown Goby (Gobiodon acicularis).

Also pray for my SPS…

I had small groups at my LFS. They should co-exist quite well.

Am I right in thinking these guys have preferred SPS colonies they’d host?
Specifically Seriatopora, Stylophora and Poccilopora.

Absolutely - their #1 choice for perching

Maybe I’ll look for a nice colony of one of them then, I’d love to have these guys be happy in one coral instead of hating the others haha.

Well, I learnt my first rule with my two G. okinawae;

Don’t let any size of gap in your weir intake fool you!
The smaller of the two gobies went missing randomly and I was looking for a good hour before I saw something yellow in the back chamber. So I did what anyone would do and looked to see what it was. Lo and behold it was one of the okinawae.

So, I wound up taking appart the back chamber and completely dismantling the two chambers he was swimming between. Then I went to try and grab him by hand… bad move, he jumped and went into the smallest gap between the second and third chambers.

Then it was a case of completely dismantling the tank and trying to get him out of there. I eventually got him into the first two chambers and then I had an issue of him going into the opposite chamber to where my hand was.

My solution to that was using a carbon filter to block the second chamber off. This worked… until I found out the corner I cut to allow for flow was on the bottom. So when I went to grab him he vanished, and I felt a small gap in the carbon. So then I had to redo the process of getting him into the first chamber.

Eventually I got it correct and figured I would find the smallest net I have and try get him out that way. And with quite a bit of patience and frustration later, he was out. Then some bickering went on between the pair which has settled.

But then I had to think of a way to prevent him going into the back chamber again. First I was going to use some mesh that I make my lids with but then remembered I had some coarse filters lying around. So now I have a coarse filter covering my weir.

And for anyone interested, here’s my back chambers, you can see why it was a PITA to spot that guy let get him out.

Well, at this point my SPS are safe. My back chambers however are not haha.

Last night I was looking for the trio of gobies and only saw two. I left it thinking the second yellow was asleep, well I woke up this morning to look at the tank to try find all 3. Still no sign of the second yellow, so I was intrigued and pulled up the filter on the weir, there he was staring at me. Probably thinking ‘are you proud?’.
So now I have completely covered the weir intake with the filter as it seems I didn’t have it as far down as I thought so I double checked and now it completely covers the intake.
But anyway, just look at all that colour! And no white fresh death (the Mille is only dead as it was bleaching before the clown gobies went in).

Haha! Super cute little guys!!
They are! I love how grumpy they look… Just I have to try and persuade myself to not hunt for Gobiodon howsoni or Gobiodon albofasciatus.

And the escape artist has been solved! They’re both just chilling with eachother now :)

You know he's going to jump through the mesh and land back in the overflow, right? :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

Not laughing at you - laughing with you (having had to do this several times now on my old tanks, I can completely relate).

Edit: It seems he found a way back in anyway. I still think he's going to vault over into the chamber next...

Definitely agree that he’s going to find a way somehow to get in the back, whether that’s pole vaulting or through swimming into the return :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

My second yellow clown goby has vanished without a sight (he hasn’t gone into the back chamber but he also isn’t in the tank). So I’ve declared him dead unfortunately but I am not giving up on having a trio of clown gobies!

I think I’ll go for a red or a green instead of two yellows this time - I have my eye on a slightly redder G. citrinus.

The trio is coming back! I decided to go for this guy as he is stunning, hopefully he doesn’t decimate my SPS.

And the band is back together!
red, yellow and black!

I do wish the red was slightly smaller but oh well, he’s just perching on my digi and not taking chunks out of them (yet).

These two are beautiful together, hopefully all three will start perching next to eachother and not just the two newest.

So far only the Digitata, Carduus and Caliendrum pieces have been claimed by the gobies, the red holds the Digi, the yellow controls the Carduus and the Black is the owner of the Caliendrum. I’d still like a nice large colony for all three corals but oh well, I can always take frags if needed ;)
