Ok, so I have identified the source of my water quality problems. It is my RO unit. I purchased the unit years ago, and it is made for household use. It tests from the tap at 10ppm nitrates. Clearly not good. I am looking to upgrade, and can spend up to $250, but would prefer to keep it under $200. I want an RO/DI unit that will make 10-20 gallons of water daily.

Here is what I like about my current unit. It has a faucet attachment that I can turn on/off. It will store 2 gallons - yes 2.

I would like a unit that I can rig up some type of on/off valve. I would like to store water in 5g buckets. I really don't have the space to put a 50g tub to collect water.

Does anyone have any advice??

Thanks,
Phil

I got the value brs 4 stage rodi...I love it. I don't have space for big tubs and y se 5 gallon buckets. .iit fills one in about two hours.

You can get the 5 stage from brs for around whay you are looking to spend.

BRS = Bulk reef supply's own brand. I have their 4 stage 75 gpd and have great luck with it.

If you're only interested in a single-stage DI system, then look no further than the Spectrapure 90GPD refurb system: FACTORY REFURBISHED

If you can up your price range to $280, then purchase the dual-DI Maxcap system, which has much better prefilters to start off with AND far better DI with higher capacity and longer life. MaxCap Standard 90-GPD RO/DI System

Hey, jedimasterben,, I could go that high. My question is does it have an on/off valve, and how much are the replacement filters?

Yes, it has a ball valve on the input. Replacement filters range in price. You'll want 0.5 micron prefilters, which are like $8 each (there is the sediment block and carbon block). Membranes from Spectrapure are the best you can get, and are like $45 each, but that you should realistically never need to replace unless you don't change your carbon block and kill the membrane with chlorine. If you are on well water and don't use a chlorinator, you don't need to worry about that as much. DI resins are not cheap, but last much longer than competition. I use the SuperDI cartridges, which are $35-40 each, but process a LOT of water. Having dual DI resins will not only make the secondary resin last longer, but you'll never need to worry about any solids making it past if your first DI resin is exhausted. Instead of replacing both the Maxcap and Silicabuster DI resins at the same time, you'll only need to replace the Maxcap resin when the TDS after it starts to rise, and you'll only need to replace the Silicabuster resin every four or more times you have replaced the Maxcap.

I hope that makes sense lol

Yes I understand all of that. One more question if I can continue to impose of you. I just read the instructions for that unit. They state the hookup is a garden hose size? I currently have a valve plumbed for my unit it is a 1/4" hookup. Seems I will need to change that hookup. Can you just tell me how it hooks up to you input from home plumbing.

If you already have a 1/4" hookup in place, you can just connect it right to that.

Mine is just hooked into my washing machine line, the garden hose connection is a standard 3/4" connection that is the same as washing machines use, so I have a y-connector, one goes to the RO and one to the washing machine.

No other vendor compares to Spectrapure who has been doing RO/DI for almost 30 years. Compare their 1 micron sediment and carbon filters to BRS 5 micron varieties which aemuch coarser so do not protect the membrane and downstream components as well. They specialy treat the either batch or individually test all their RO membranes so they are more efficient meaning your DI will last longer and they blend all their own DI resins. You don't find those things elsewhere and it will save you a ton of money over the systems life and give you better finished water quality. There really is a difference.

I have brs 5stage love great price me n my friend both upgraded to the five stage we have 2 RO systems the are 8 months old u could take n turn those n to RO di if ur still looking

Hi guys,

I just recently installed one of these RODI units from brs, the thing looks great, but its on now and it is producing way more waste water than pure water. Does anyone know why this could be? If so please help! My tank is in desperate need of water! Thanks!

That's how it works.

Thanks for the reply. I thought it is supposed to be the other way around? More pure water than waste, Ive read about a 3 to 1 gallon ratio. Is this wrong?

Alright, so it is acceptable to have only a little more then a trickle of pure? BRS advertises 75 gallons a day, I assumed I would make about 3.5 gallons an hour. Is this pure and waste together?
