RO/DI Waste Line Auto Shut Off

If The waste water isn't Shutting Off your auto shut off needs to be replaced. I found mine on Amazon for under 10 bucks & I don't lose a drop to unneeded waste water anymore.
 
I can't get my ASO to shut off the waste water. I have the BRS kit and its going to a reservoir with the manual float switch but it never shuts down. I've called BRS and they have sent me 5 new ASOs before they gave up and stop sending new ones. Don't know what's up.

I had the same issue. My pressure tank was on the wrong side of the check valve. Do you have a tank? The auto shut off is just a rubber valve. The pressure from a full tank causes it to close.
 
I was having issues with the autoshutoff valves maintaining enough pressure to stay shut off so I hooked up 12v solenoid valves to both output and waste online. Works like a charm. One float switch and two solenoid valves. The only thing I did notice is that the RODI stays pressurized, I'm not sure if that's good or bad. The benefit now is I don't hear my pipes continuously rattling from it trying to maintain pressure to keep the autoshutoff closed.

You could still do that with a float switch and a solenoid. In fact that's probably how mine should be setup...haha, amazing how we don't always think clear. If you need guidance let me know. In fact I'm going to change mine to your recommended setup tomorrow.

Well then that's quite simple. I assume you have an apex or similar? If you do then do this.

Put two float switches inside your container. One on the bottom and one on the top but not the very top.

Then put a float valve on the top higher than the top switch.

Buy a solenoid from amazon. I have a good recommendation on a quality one if you need it.

Connect the float switches to your bob. Put the solenoid on your source water input to your rodi.

Program the apex to turn on the solenoid when water level gets to lower float switch and to turn it off once it reaches the top. The float valve with the rodi tubing will serve as a backup if the solenoid fails so it doesn't overflow the tank.

I would still add an asov so that if solenoid fails the float valve will stop the rodi water and also the waste water.

The float switches allow for the rodi to only make water when the level is low on tank so you will be making big batches at a time to save di resin.

Btw my setup is almost identical to this except my solenoid is on the rodi output as I have a booster pump that shuts off automatically when solenoid shuts off. If I had the solenoid on the input water of the filter the pressure switch would not shut off the pump by itself.

If setup correctly and you must have at least 40 psi water pressure an auto shut off will shutdown your supply water and there should not be water going to waste. no water in no water out. if using a float valve once water level drops pressure drops and water will flow again. My setup is a pressure switch on the water line going to float valve when pressure reaches 40 psi it shuts off pressure pump and supply line. No water in no water out. My float valve is my safety device as I have a valve I turn off when my ATO is full. If you don't have 40 psi then your system will always have water flowing from supply which will cause waste water to flow to drain. If you don't have 60 psi going into your RO then it is not as efficient and a booster pump should be used.

I don't have a pressure tank. My water currently fills a glass aquarium with a manual float valve in it.
 
a made a video to show how quickly the shut off valve works, use your imagination and pretend the ball valve is the float valve in your freshwater container. my system is conected to a three gallon storage tank with a oneway valve, for icemaker and drinking water. works fine shutsoff all the time

I see your pic of the valve itself. Would you be willing to tell me what each line in and out is so I can verify it's not a plumbing mix up. I've done it every way I can imagine but yours works so I'll ask.
 
Float. I've installed it the BRS shows in their diagram and every variation I've found that's different online just for sh!ts and giggles to attempt to make it work.

Check you supply line pressure, get a pressure gauge that fits your garden hose bib from lowes, ace, home depot if you do not have over 40 PSI your auto shutoff or pressure switch if using a solenoid will not shut off the supply and you will still have water coming from your waste line. If you have it installed correctly it should work as long as you have enough pressure. The pressure switch and solenoid is slick and easy to install. I don't recommend you have your R/O D/I going straight into your sump. Use an ATO with float valve and I also shut mine off with a valve and unplug it when the ATO is full. I don't like to leave mine on as it has a 130 psi booster pump and if something pops it would make a water mess. I have a 40 gallon ATO so I am not filling it but once a week. Also with the solenoid and pressure switch if you unplug it the supply water is shut off and makes changing filters or resin easy without having to shut off the water.
 
For those who can't get the waste water line to stop dripping....I had the same problem no matter the back pressure.... and after reading the reviews on BRS for the inline check valve...I decided to buy a couple. I first installed one on the supply line feeding my RO/DI system so that the system wouldn't be affected when the house pressure drops (like when the washer fills). It still dripped. So I installed the second one between the membrane output and the ASO. It worked! ! I'm not sure why it worked because the membranes already have check valves on the output elbows....but it worked. For those with double membranes....install the check valve between the "Y" and the ASO. Hope this helps.

Rev you're looking for a solenoid valve as 143mpco has said above. Most RO units have an auto shut off valve so make sure you have one. place this solenoid on a timer and this along with the float valve in the reservoir and you're set
