Hey there!

I had to do this myself one time, so maybe I can lend a hand. I see you ordered from BRS. If I am not mistaken, you should be able to order all of your RO/DI filter needs via packages that are categorized by the amount of stages your unit has. Also located on BRS. If you would like to source them out from cheaper suppliers, there should also be quick videos on BRS explaining the functions of each stage of the unit.

If I remember correctly, your first stage while house a membrane with a metal frame that is porous. It should mechanically trap larger debris. The second stage should house a membrane that is more "cottony," in texture which absorbs more fine sediment. With the next stage being DI resin of course to absorb chemicals. The picture on the bottom is correct, but I believe it is just backwards. (I change them from the view of the other side).

As far expiring of the DI Resin, I would contact BRS and ask them directly. Or at least ask them who the manufacturer is, so you can get into contact with them or go to their source to find expire dates. I would imagine it is quite some time as long as it has not been exposed to water vapor via outside air. It may be listed on the BRS website as well.
*Edit* Realized I left out the carbon stage, haha.

i think i should get
MATRIKX 5 STAGE RO/DI REPLACEMENT FILTER KIT

But do i also need this?
100 GPD MEMBRANE - DOW FILMTEC?

totally lost here :)

@kamla I can help.

I have run these (2 for the past 16 years)

It's gonna cost a bit of money (especially the membrane) but the rest is reasonable. I'll post a couple of pics of mine and send you the link. You could upgrade for not a lot more...but here goes.

You have an older version of the RD-106
http://www.watergeneral.com/product01.aspx

*The sediment should be replaced every 6 months
*The two Carbon Blocks should be replaced once a year.
*The membrane should be replaced once every two years
*RODI RESIN when TDS goes above rang above zero (the NGCCDI resin from BRS supply you have should be viable

I'm attaching an invoice for what you would need and you may subtract the DI resign cost.

Another option for not much more, if you like the brand you have, doesn't cost much more which is better and includes a booster pump.

I stock up and to keep them optimal is reasonable. I've been running the picture I'll provide for approximately 10 years and still operates as new.

Here's a new unit versus spending ~$110 for new stuff:

*and it appears to be on sale. :)

***Hope this helped.

No, no! Don't worry about your GPD membrane unless it is broken or not working properly. That is just there to help with the pressure coming from your sink or water source. There's a recommended PSI rate that comes with the units. That needs replacing if broken or if you wish to up the PSI to make more water per day.

I do not want to hijack the thread, but while I've got you here can I ask you what your opinion is for the appropriate amount of stages for a unit to be to produce the needed quality of water for a reef tank?

Yes you would still need the 100 GPD membrane. As from the filter kit description, it does not include one.
That's because these are usually not replaced often. Which is why I stated I would not worry about it unless I noticed a change in pressure. They are a nice chunk of the pie in terms of money, so I would not try to fix what is not broken. But you are correct! If the OP chooses to replace it, they will need to source it separately!

I noticed you spelled resin "resign". I found that kind of odd. Is that an alternate spelling like gray and grey. I like how you wrote the date on each item you replaced. I may start doing that. Either that or put it in my phone app. But something about the way you have yours just makes more sense.

YUP>>>SPELL CHECK GOT ME>>>I suppose it's equivalent to writing Gaol versus Jail.

Yes. spell check got me. Maybe I should check my grammar and second guess my Ph.D. huh?
Nope, intelligent people typically have "rough" grammar and writing because they are thinking ahead or critically. Or at least that is what I tell myself when it comes to my literature related issues... ;Shamefullyembarrased

You have spell check on the tape you wrote on? Sweet!

I once had a co-worker tell another co-worker he should tear up his degree. He got a verbal warning but it was a long going joke anytime someone made a mistake lol.

LOL. I understand.

I laugh and laugh when I see some of your errors. ;) I just choose to remain silent. lol

But I still admire what you do.

Someone else who has a WaterGeneral RO unit! :D

My two cents.....

I've had the same membrane for at least ten years. However, unless you're incoming water is disgustingly high, (11 TDS with a "good" membrane of 98% ejection would suggest incoming TDS is 550), I'd suggest replacing the membrane with a new Filmtec membrane (at least 98% ejection).

I'm a BRS guy, and would recommend the 4 stage pack from them....

4 STAGE RO ONLY REPLACEMENT FILTER KIT

Now I just told you I buy from BRS, but the exception is DI resin....I get mine from eBay. I'd also give that old DI resin a shot. If the bag was sealed, you should be good. That said, I'd also recommend a dual TDS meter that measures post RO and post DI. This tells you when your DI is shot. HERE's and example of a dual TDS inline meter.

You laugh and laugh at someone else's errors. That doesn't sound too healthy. :)

Wasn't trying to offend you Dr.

I noticed resign was both on the post and on the tape. Didn't mean to imply spelling had anything to do with intelligence.

Seems as though everyone on here takes the things I say the wrong way. Maybe I'm the problem .

Haha, goodness gracious! I really am bad about getting lost in my head while talking or writing. Especially when I get stressed or tired. I have noticed myself saying things backwards, mostly when I am fatigued.

Have you found a way to test if the TDS meter is working properly?
