I do not want to hijack the thread, but while I've got you here can I ask you what your opinion is for the appropriate amount of stages for a unit to be to produce the needed quality of water for a reef tank?
At a min you need a sediment, a carbon block, a d/i , a resin stage.
This will all depend on what is in your source water. Add stages as required. Most people need to run 2 carbons if they have a lot of chlorine in city water. If you have a lot of sediment like rust or dirt, 2 sediment filters. A lot of C02 then maybe 2 resin stages
And I know i cant speel.

Unless I missed it with all the comments I haven't seen anyone comment on this; based on your original photos, your main problem is you have taken your di resin to 100% depletion. At 100% depletion it will start to release what it has absorbed, brs has a video on this. Change your di resin when there's no less than one inch of blue left at the top. Meleves reef also has a video on how to prolong the life of your di resin by flushing out the tds creep from your membrane before making water.

You missed it, and it's totally our fault. Haha, OP is doing an entire filter change. They were also wondering if an unopened bag of DI resin of 3 years was still good. I apologize.

Also I believe you can't go strictly based on color 100% of the time. My resin turned orange within the first 100 gallons but I was still getting the 0TDS for several hundreds of gallons more. In the OP's case he/she may be over due, but just throwing that out there.

Lol, I scrolled through it twice before I commented but got lost

Someone else who has a WaterGeneral RO unit! :D

what a small world.... i bought this unit because it was recommended by you ... @redfishbluefish
you help me set up by 120 Gal reef, on another site :) i am from NJ :)

anyhoo my tap water is around 300 TDS before the RO unit
and after the Ro unit its 11 TDS.

so should replace the membrane ?

if so, where should i buy it from BRS?

thax kamla

I've thought many times about pushing the envelope on depletion and saving a little on di resin, but I finally just told myself that's it's not worth it for the headache if I end up needing to dump the water I made and flushing out my storage tank

If you're going from 300 to 11 I think your membrane is working great

Im on a fixed income so....I would buy the other filters and change out the resin with what resin you have. See what that result is. If tjat does not bring it down to 0 then maybe buy new resin and a membrane.

I can add 2 things.
1 I have used old resin in the past it worked fine but didn't last very long
2 I knew what You meant Capt'n, so what's the big deal?

Thax every one..

i will get the new filter and use the old membrane and old resin

and see what TDS i get, if its still bad then i will replace everything

i might have pay shipping extra :(

Thax
