Rock flower anemone!!

I can't speak for everyone, but I have observed mine for a month of ownership.

1. When i placed them and spot fed them and held them there for 30 seconds, they stayed put. Kind of conditioned them to knowing they will get fed there.

2. Low flow low light like ppl suggested, but my green is losing some color. I since moved him to a little more light ~100 par and he is brightening up. Seems to be just the green color. My red is fine

3. Feed every other day seems to work well to keep them open and happy and not add too much nutrients to system.

4. Lastly, feed the fishes first, especially clowns. They will take the food right out of the nem's mouth. Clowns are jerks.

I've had this one for many years. It's a good 6in in diameter.

I have a 15g anemone tank. I have 8 rock flowers and 2 bubbletips. Been going ~2 years and going well except bit of algae.

Rockflowers like the sand/rock interface to place their foot and for the most part stay still. Like any nem they do go on walkabouts but I'm never worried about them stinging anything. In my tank I'm always worried they may walk in the path of my bubbletip nems, only rockflower I have lost was to a bubbletip.

Anemones are built to eat. I don't purposefully feed them and don't believe in feeding them big meals like silversides. I do feed frozen foods and they obviously get plenty of that (daphnia and mysis). But rockflowers tend to readily take much smaller foods than my bubble tips will. Live baby brine and reefnutrion copepods get a feeding response like nothing other, live food is the best thing I have ever fed my tank.

You have some beautiful RFA's. One day I want to setup a tank just for them. I love them

RFA's are great additions to reef tanks. Easy to care for, vibrantly colored and mine (I have 8) have never bothered anything.

Wanted to add some but not sure a good location. Was thinking on the sand bed the wrasse will bury them in sand. Seeing your photo it’s not a problem

I have 11 wrasses and a Black Cap basslet that thinks he's a diamond goby. They spew /splash sand on them all the time and it doesn't bother them a bit.

I don't feed them a lot but mine are very sticky and get lots of food from the water column. I do feed a few hunks of LRS but it's hard to keep the fish from stealing from them. Just have to stand guard for about 15 seconds or so. By then they have balled up on the food and have it in their mouths.

I would put them somewhere where they can easily get to lower light and lower flow. They can move, but I've never had one go very far. I parked my first one midway up a rock and over the next week or so he slowly descended down to the substrate, where he has remained ever since. He'll still withdraw if you shine a flashlight on him, so they are fairly sensitive to light.

My second one I put into a hole in an area of a little more light and flow and he stayed there, but it took several weeks before he opened up fully. So apparently they can get used to conditions if they stay there long enough.

Thanks for the info. Seems a lot of coral can adjust some with flow. Last weekend I was going to get some RFA but the selection was slim. We will wait for a new order to pick through

I have some on top of flat rocks 8" from the light 1" underwater and others near and on the bottom. Others up under overhangs. They are nems and do what they want.
Not to high jack but since this is an info thread.
@Ron Reefman question: I have some that raise up the stalk then fold over downwards when I feed. unlike some times when they fold over and move food to mouth, Are they trying to get more food or saying no mas?

i got a small one a little while back that cruised around the tank like a bubbletip. it is now AWOL.

What live food do you feed? Just copepods?

if only they didn't charge an arm and a leg for them here in Canada id set up an office rock nem tank.
Exactly! I started looking for these guys and was shocked at the prices here! :-( I can buy a brick of gold for less! LOL
