I'm not sure if anyone else does this or not, but one of my favorite things to do (even when I don't need anymore rock in my tank) is to break up large bulky pieces of rock and reattach them in more interesting shapes. It not only makes a little rock go a long ways it makes the structure lighter, and provides lots of hidey holes. I'm not sure why I like making them so much, but I do. I've also found these new open shapes will lock together better without glues or putty so that it can make taking it down and redoing it, much easier. Any one else make rock sculptures?

sorry. I didn’t add photos cause I wasn’t trying to show off what they look like rather ask if others did it. But here are some pictures. (Still arranging some colonies so excuse the mess) This rockscape one consists of scrap that I piled (and 95% was rubble thrown away by other people) But it’s nice how it locks together. I did cheat on this one in a couple of places and use super glue so the crabs would quit making gaps.

Here are three separate pieces. Arranged and then apart. I like doing them like this cause if I get tired of it or want to add something they aren’t permanent.

Although you can see the putty I use (I don’t care cause it colors up eventually) you gain paint sand over it and it will conceal it or glue on rock fragments and hide it.

Three more added pieces. None of these main shapes are glued. They just lock together. Down side is you can’t really be set on a particular design since they are only going to lock where they want to.

Disassembled the. Put together in a different way. Sorry my dog photobombed that last one.

Very nice, I like them a lot. Most of my reef rock I built like that but they are cemented together or are all cement.

That last 'rock" is over and to the right of the Moorish Idol. It is 3' long

Making these smaller arrangements that will interlock easily lets me switch stuff around or Ben remove a coral I no longer want without having to cut it or hammer rock. Not as fancy as some people’s but I find it enjoyable to mess around with

Yeah none of mine are that large. I usually make small arrangements and then lock them together. Don’t get me wrong they can be stacked into huge tall or wide arrangements I just don’t set out with a set design in mind. Rather just put them together and see what I like. So using the small arrangements lets me build on.

I always use super glue and insta-set (fantastic product and makes life much easier). Prevents rock slides and topples but I can break it off if needed. Once I find something I think I like I use e-marco which finishes bonding.
