I’ve been running a 60 gallon cube for over two years now and is going great I’ve been just filling a few 5 gallon jugs of water from the store every month and am finally gonna get a rodi I’m city water not exactly sure how good or bad it is I’m looking to get a rodi unit that is under 150 I’ve looked at the brs rodi or a few on amazon just looking with someone with a little more knowledge in the systems and which one is best for the money. Thank you

I owned several brands and IMO, they are pretty much the same in making water. The more expensive have whistles and bells (pressure gauge, extra stages, etc.) which I don't really care for. However, for a bit $ get one with dual TDS meter which help you quickly determine if you need to replace filters and/or membrane.
Most important, IMO, is the membrane. Get one with the highest rejection rate (i.e., 99%).
For your 60g system, a 4 stage 75GPD is sufficient.

The membranes, filters and DI resin are only sourced from one or two places. Housing and packaging are most of the rest of it if you get the same membranes and filters.

Filter direct has a 100 GPD for $125 that should work just fine.

Before you order anything, see if your tap water has Chloramines... if it does, then your game has to change.

not necessarily that’s why spectrapure is many steps ahead of everyone else.

I bought the 4 stage BRS value unit last black Friday for $95, has worked great. Look for that sale in about a month.

Zero TDS is Zero TDS

Buy a separate HM TDS Meter for about $20. When you see 1 TDS, change filters, about every six months for your 60G tank needs

Gauges are good and help determine maintenance, if you take the time to look at them and know what the numbers mean.

spectrapure makes a good unit with adjustable flow restricter, which has to be adjusted once installed. Can also use a spectrapure internal, adjustable flow restrictor on any ro unit in place of the external restrictors that come on most brands. So any unit can be adjusted to allow for ideal product to waste ratio for long filter life.

Water general, brs, and soectrapure are some good names. There’s certainly others and they’re all pretty much the same, if they’re all standard 10 inch cartridges. Clear plastic for cartridges is a nice feature

4 or five stages has nothing to do with how much water you need. It has to do with city or well water. With well water 4 stages is usually enough. With city water you need an additional one or two stages to remove chlorides and fluorides. So for city water 5 stage

The gpd of your membrane can produce is what determines how much, how fast, amount of water you have.

Finally I will say that for long filter life, ease, and keeping it simple, if you stay under 75 gallons per day on membrane, you should be fine. 75 gpd membrane needs about 40-45 psi to work well. Most houses have that. Higher gpd membrane needs higher pressure, which you may or may not have, or need a booster pump

Thanks allot with the responses I’m gonna shoot for the Black Friday sale joec suggested the spectrapure does look great as well and will keep it in mind as well

You can always go for the BRS system then upgrade the filters with spectrapure ones down the road if you wish(The filters are all interchangeable as long as you buy the 10"). Best of both worlds and by that time you will know what you want out of your system and can tune your system to your exact wants and needs.

Yup^

Maybe a good idea to get a mixture of micron particle filters, like 5, 1, .05. For when time to change for maintenance, so you can experiment with what size particles your house is dealing with

Well water or city?

BRS like @joec suggested, check their sales in a couple of weeks for sales. Once you have a well built unit, it's all about what you put in them and your maintenance schedule, they all hold the same stuff. My BRS unit has been going for 7 years, always 0 tds, and I start from mid to high 400s. They have very well built units with your choice of configurations and easy add ons and upgrades.

Several great units on the market.

I am regurgitating what I wrote from a similar thread a couple of weeks ago:
________________________________________

You'll get 100 different answers on which to buy and much of it depends on where one likes to purchase from such as BRS, Marine Depot, the list goes on and on and prices differ.

The following is a ~guideline for changing components are pretty much the same but there are variables and different companies will give different time frames. The following is only an average on what many of us do.
1. Sediment is approximately every 6 months
2. Carbon Blocks is approximately once a year
3. The membrane is once every 2 years
4. Depending on the DI color changing mixed bed deionization cartridge (DI) should be replaced when the resin changes color completely to amber, or if the TDS value reaches the same TDS level of the water coming from the membrane prior to entering the DI cartridge. Luckily, finding out exactly when you need to change your filter cartridges is easy. TDS will be noticed, sediment filter darkens and so on.

Not trying to sway you on a brand I would like to post a couple of thing on the following unit I have had for about 8 years now and with regular changes, it is as good as new. I'm attaching 2 years worth of orders to show the average cost of my particular unit. Units will vary and I show one with membrane and the next without to give you a rough idea of costs to be expected.

I hope it helps give you an idea.

My unit has the exact same Dow Filmtec 99% rejection rate RO membrane that the similar SpectraPure has. It has the same sediment and carbon blocks too. DI is a bit different. 0 TDS for more than a year... don't know a unit that cost 2 or 3 times as much could be any better.

I do not have to fight any chloramines. Good luck to those that do.

They are all different. Mine is a few years old, so different than that, but close. That is a 95-97% rejection membrane - you can get up to 99% if you pay more. That unit is just fine. If you have really nasty water, then the 99% might be worth it since you can/will use less DI resin on the back end.

That would be why some units cost 2-3 times more. They are all different. You can't really compare a basic 4 stage low rejection unit to a unit that has PSI gauges, TDS Meters and the best filters on the market. Yes it will function just fine, but it's lacking certain things that a user could really benefit from. And FWIW BRS sells the 100 GPD 99% rejection unit for $159.99 not on sale(with free shipping), throw in a good sale and they are pretty darn close to the same price.

And I'm not trying to imply filter direct is a bad company and they make a bad product or any thing, just that there is a solid reason why some filters are 2-3 times the price.

I think I’m gonna shoot for the 100gpd 4 stage from brs. Hoping it goes on sale for Black Friday looks to have great reviews and brs has always been very reasonable with everything
